So, we were pretty excited to go to MonteVerde and check out the cloud forest, get a little rain, yada yada. Well, I think this was the dryest place so far. They are supposed to have 2 seasons....wet and more wet. We didn´t see a drop of rain. Nor did we see a forest in the clouds.
OK, first the drive there. It is advertised as a Jeep Boat Jeep tour to get from LaFortuna to MonteVerde. Sounds pretty fun? Well, there was no Jeep to be found. It was more like Van Boat Van. And the roads! Wow! We were driving on the side of a cliff for 2 hours. It was the craziest road that I have been on so far. The locals keep the roads in rough conditions to try to keep people out and reduce development.
So, we met this great woman named Terri when we were on our volcano hike in LaFortuna and she was going over to MonteVerde a day before we were and was going to scope out a good place to stay. When our van arrived in town (one square block!) we didn´t see her so we started looking around ourselves.
We spent about an hour looking at a few places. As we were on our way to see the 5th place, I looked at a Cabina (small hotel/hostel) we were passing and in the window was Terri. So, we politely looked at the place our guide was showing us and then went back and grabbed a room where Terri was. Which actually turned out to be the nicest place we have stayed at and at the best price in town ($20 for both w/our own bathroom!). The room was very nice and felt like a real hotel. Except that the water wouldn´t come out of the shower head, so I improvised and had myself a little bubble bath with the foot high lip around the shower!
Where was I? Hmmm. OK. When we arrived we went on a coffee tour of Don Juan´s coffee plantation. It was very fun and we learned alot about coffee. I´m sure we´ll be coffee snobs in no time! That night we went out to dinner at the Tree House Restaurant. It´s basically a Restaurant built around a huge tree. That was fun and we listened to some nice live music. I did however
have a difficult time getting a sandwich there without bacon.
Next day was a day of crazy adventure. We started our day with a Sky Trek. Which is walking across bridges up in the "cloud forest". Which was a nice way to start the day and get me used to heights for the rest of the day. Although I think it would have been more of an interesting sight if it were actually raining or actually a forest in the clouds. Eh, que serra, serra.
Alright, so that afternoon we went on our zip line canopy tour. We decided to go with a relatively new company called Extremo. They claim to have the most extreme adreneline rush ride of all of them. After talking to other travellers before and after our trip I think everyone agrees with that claim! Considering that I was such a chicken that for any zip line that looked long or high I went with our guide. We were great amigos after that day. There was also rapelling that I quite enjoyed, and a freaky ass Tarzan swing that after hearing the screams of the other people ahead of me I quickly bowed out
of!
The next day my back was really sore from trying not to die on the zip line. I stayed home and had another "bath", listened to music, and chilled with my new friend Terri. Rod went exploring in the next town. When he got back we went on a night tour at Bosque Eterno de los Ninos (Children's Eternal Rainforest) where we saw mucho insects, tarantulas, birds and dancing scorpions.
Then off to Montezuma (interesting story). While sitting waiting for the bus we met an English fellow named Paul. Well, he looked kinda familure but I couldn´t quite place him. It turns out that we met each other back at Rocking J´s in Peurto Viejo the night that we had the bonfire. When I was taking the photo of Rod I was standing beside Paul. Also, when we were looking at each other´s photo´s and talking about our trips we discovered that we have been on pretty much the same trip only hours or days apart. Funny. Well, maybe you had to be there! Hahaha.
This blog is getting long. Well, we are here in Montezuma for the next couple of days for some RnR. Then? Who knows. We´ll worry about that manyana.
Pura Vida Baby!

Zip lining good times!
Gosh, did I meet Paul too? Oh wait, wasn't he sitting with the two girls from..I don't remember, but somewhere in Europe? Oh that darn Costa Rican beer! Zip lining is great, but don't ever let anyone fool you into thinking that you see anything while you are doing it, it's all about the rush! So much fun. I've been back a week Ang, and I miss it so much. Watch a sunset for me, drink some wine for me too, and please, please have some rice and beans! xo Tania
