so hello, this is gonna be a short one (you may be glad) because im melting away in the heat. so we had our day at ankor wat (not sure if its one of the 7 wonders) it was lovely, amazing temples. unbelievable how they carved the faces etc in the stone. its a huge place with many temples, sunrise - at 5.30-6 if you dont mind was unfortunatly not for us, the clouds hid it all. we climed these steps which were practically vertical to the top of teh temple - scared ourseleves out of it! was mad, and had a grand day looking at all the buddahs and temples - one had deadly trees growing out of the buildings - where the film tomb raider was filmed
we finished the day off with a night out with a few tuk-tukk drivers in their local - kinda - funny out, some were nice , some not so, but over all we had a laugh while they ate cows stomach and some sorrt of bird - or rather bones of somthing! we drank wine and discussed politics - not we dranks beer and they had a good laugh at how easy we are to get money out of - bein scammed! they have a bit of a thing for the whole western woman, a bit too much of a thing, but we coped and had a laugh i think theyll miss cris in particular! anyways, then off on a bus to Phnom Penh. tis bit scarier, interesting journey, all the shakes and then some factories, more cows in this part - generally wandering the roads. lots of feilds of some sort of crop - maybe rice and patches of desert. again the local found my white legs of much interest! some of the shacks are better than other, generally though, wodden huts on stilts with not electricity or pluming, prob one room. all the people hang out under their houses. the tuk-tuk guys explained it well, thy kinda work when they want, which is most days then they have a day off which is nice and better for other drivers to get work, and the other drivers do the same thing. they can stop work, sit around, go have a beer anytime they want. and head out for some food and beer every night. they just drive you too a sight wait round, have a sleep then same thing again, they think westerners work way to hard they just work all the time and dont go out. seem true what the book says, they are all about family, faith and food. there are kinnda minny alters everywhere, and lots of food - and kids are looked after by everyone.
phnom pehn is not as nice as Siem Reap. people are watching you not in an interested way, kinda sinister, like maybe for your wallet or a bit sleesey. they say anything to make more money - they have asked me, on a couple of occasions, if they could eat cris, I declined obviously - but almost temped to see if they would take out the chop sticks! . the driving is still mad, but still safe. not so many pics here, half afraid to take the camera out. i have everything tied down! they are not so happy here either. we saw the killing fields, S21 prison/museum (pretty harrowing) and the national museum and palace - enough history stuff to do me a few days. all good thoug. nobody seems as genuine here, all out for your money we tink but perhaps we just have a bad view, althoug, if they were all gawking at your legs you may think the same. I feel like a light bulb in a place with no electricity, brings new meaning to the song "i cant take my eyes off you" so Im trousered up an sweating lik a bullock! bejeakers that wasnt short at all, but rather boring. so must return to our hostel on the lake and maybe have some mexican food! how bad!
toodlles!
