AN - After our plane landing three hours late, spending a chaotic time trying to leave the airport and finally setting into our beds, with Legends of the Fall playing on the TV, aiding our sleep at Airport View Hotel; it hit me! Oh my god! I was in Africa. It was real! All those weeks and months of planning have taken us to this point, us being in Accra, Ghana. Throughout the day Chantel and I would sporadically think to ourselves, “Oh my god, we are going to Africa.” And now it was real: “OH MY GOD!!! WE ARE IN AFRICA.”

CHANTEL - I think the defining moment of the start of our trip was when we had just settled into our seats on the plane and the Ghanaian women sitting next to An turned to us and asked us where were going. While I thought it was pretty obvious considering this was a direct flight Amsterdam to Accra, we both laughed and An responded with “oh, we are going to Ghana.” The look on that women’s face was nearly indescribable but if I had to try it would be something like “what the f*$% are you two doing?” She looked at us as though we were clearly crazy and as though she doubted that we were on the right flight. From then on it was pretty clear that we had little idea what we were getting ourselves into, but hey who cares - WE ARE GOING TO AFRICA.
