Leaving NYC
Goodbye Winter! We
FINALLY made it.
Well after 27 hours on the plane and 3 hours in Taipai, China, we have arrived in Thailand and our 3 month journey begins.
A few facts:
Thailand and SouthEast Asia is 12 hours ahead of NY.
The currrency is the Thai Baht.
One US dollar gets 35.5 Bahts.
The population consists of 85%!T(MISSING)hai and about 15%!C(MISSING)hinese descent.
you can't drink the water.
Its hot, humid, crowded, smoggy, loud, smelly and crazy; Pretty much wonderful and we love it!!
We got in around 3 and checked into our hotel, The Royal Orchid Sheraton. Which is located right on thye Chao Phyra River (Bangkoks major river and the fastest and most enjoyable means of transportation) showered off the many many hours of traveling and had a quick nap before setting off to explore.
The first night was pretty interesting as we imagined a first night in any new city or country is. Our first evening was spent getting adjusted to the sounds, smells and pace of the things around us.
We took a taxi down to the Saun Lum Night Bazar adjacent to Luhmpini Park
OMFGNYC
Brens brilliant scrabble tiles during our 3 hour delay in the China Air Business Class Lounge. where there is a massive ferris wheel called the roue de parie. There were rows and rows of resaurants and shops selling clothes, "antiques", home furnishings and on and on. We decided on a beer and spin around the ferris wheel, after which we strolled the seemingly endless isles of shops and had dinner at the Relax restaurant.
Jetlagged we decided to find a taxi back to the hotel and had the experience of meeting Shumaka our very funny cab driver home who pointed out "chicken lady" better known as thai prostitute and asked if we were going to the "fucky show" (more on that later) We asked him if he knew Chubacca and he said "yeah I'm thai chubacca" not really sure if he got it, funny none the less.
We'll be updating the blog on a slightly schewed scedule so postings will be from a few days before. We love you all and are safe and having a blast. BANGKOK BITCHES!!
