so im finally here on the island caught a bus on monday night and so some night scenery. the city went on forever, there seem to be hotels - just a few, nice houses, towers of flats and then shacks - which seem more numerous. and a lot of construction - mostly towers of sorts many which seem to be abandoned. looks like a lot of people live in one roomed-kinda huts, tough going i think!
so arived here and as i heard it was so wonderfully fantastic was a little disenchanted with the place to be honest. however after a couple of days and the waves of relaxation wash over you i'd say anyone thinks its fantastic. we live in a shack which is made of bamboo/rushes and some wood. have a double matress on floor, a mosy net and a fan. we paid a bit extra for a shower and a toilet, but id say we will be doing the cheap thing next time - there was no where else when we arrived. plumbing is a funny thing, you never think muchj of it at home and would detest having to deal with any problems associated with it, but, i think i have a new found appreciation for it all! all toilets are toilets but they dont flush or anything , you through a bucket of water in after! b.y.o toilet paper, which goes in a bin. we share our toilet/shower room with some ants, but they are fine.. that might not be a pretty picture but everybody is quite happpy with it, including me, because of the beach, sea, bars and generally sort of a general happy smiley blissful atmosphere. but i just thought you should know those details anyway.!
iv also made some new friends, quite a few i think, they are browny/black, fairly quiet, sly and seem to be everywhere u cant see them- if you havn't guessed- mosquitoes. they love my legs which now have numerous itchey red red red lumps about the size of a euro coin!
yesterday we spent on the beach. the water is lukewarm the bun is baking and the sand is dam hot! despite applying suncream all over like every 30 mins i still managed to get burnt! but i blame the swimming. just my shoulders but could be worse. we went for a few last night, the bars are cool, live music and some on the edge of the shore. we met some interesting characters! wel the very young thai waiter man wanted to go to cambodia with cris, and the local thai singer (not exactly young), was fairly keen to take me anywhere on his moped . it was gas! i think the whole friendly irish thing can be taken the wrong way, we escaped, just about and laughed all the way home.-the beer is good!
today was fantastic, we went on a boat trip for the day. snorkeling - the fish were gorgeous, unfortunatly don't know exactly what kind i saw but they were all different colours and all around me (possibly clown, and angel fish). i could hear them eating! we went to lovely island- picture postcard clear water and sand like velvet. the veiw of hills and forest all around was magnificent and the water was warm. then more snorkeling - or swimmimg of some wee islands and to top it off, feeding monkeys on the cliffs - that was the best! god some pics but not have my thingy to atttach. we were fed lovely melon, pinapple and dinner. was lovely. met some nice people also form all over and got advice for our travels!
so what happpens now. well a wee rest and a cold shower,food and out for the night apparently things don't get goin til 11 ish so mush figure all that out. maybe another day here tomorrow and then cambodia. the heat is mercyless so i cant handle too much! shade and my good book i think.
