I had originally decided not to do a travelblog, as really who wants to hear that I got up early and went to work everyday.. but it's surprisingly difficult to keep in touch with everyone and I get confused about who I've told what so a blog it is.

So I am here in Kingston a week and a half now, and I'm really enjoying every minute. I'm still living in the Courtleigh hotel until my apartment is ready. The Courtleigh is great, the minute myself and Jen walk out to the pool bar, there's 2 Red Stripe beers on the table - my criteria for a good hotel are pretty simple.

The HR team are great, there are six Irish in the department so you could actually be anywhere until you step outside the office into the fabulous weather. It rained for about an hour last Sunday but other than that it's been fabulous weather all the time. I catch about 3 minutes of sun a day on the way to work (see my resistance to doing a blog?!) so I am as white as ever, not so much as a freckle. One of the girls here

asked me if I was bleaching.. thanks a million.

Eating out is quite expensive in Kingston but the standard is really high. Fabulous seafood, fresh fruit and jerk chicken - yum! The people here are crazy about food. If there's a party on, all they want to know is, will there be food? No food, no party.

Kingston itself is not particularly scenic. There are quite a few poor parts, the roads and footpaths aren't great and you need to watch the heels in case you slip into a manhole 😉 It's surrounded by mountains which are lovely, but maybe the purpose of Kingston is to make you appreciate how nice the rest of Jamaica is! Plus the people here are just fabulous so it more than makes up for the scenery. We are in the uptown/New Kingston area which is where the offices, hotels and restaurants are. Hopefully I'll get to do a tour of Kingston to see the other parts, including the downtown area and Trench Town where Bob himself grew up. My new apartment will be on Marley Rd around the corner from where Bob last lived. His house is now the official Bob Marley

museum.

The HR team went offsite last weekend to Ocho Rios, which is a resort on the other side of the island. It was so nice to see a bit of the island and when the traffic got bad ("toooo-tal griiiidlock") we leaned out the window to buy bananas from the road side stalls. We went through the mountains to get to Ochi and some of the roads were hair-raising to say the least. I mean, why get stuck behind a truck when you can overtake it at speed on a blind bend on the side of the mountain? The resort itself was pretty resort-y but the sea was just beautiful, totally clear and greeny/blue. It was also all-inclusive so we all had fun on the free rum in the evenings, which led to embarrassing karaoke sessions in the piano lounge.

Oh and "Jamaic'n me crazy" does exist, it was my first Jamaican nightclub experience! It's kind of like Tamangos with R 'n' B and weapons!
