Jan 29, we left Hua Hin on the overnight bus to Phang Nga, famous for the James Bond Island.

We got there at 6 am in the morning, on Jan 30. The bus driver did not alert us to get off. Gary did not sleep through the night and asked the driver where we are and realized we have reached Phang Nga. If we did not get off the bus, we would have ended up in Phuket.

Phang Nga is a very sleepy town, with a few guesthouses, a few restaurants on the main road. There are residences around town, which tourists do not normally get to.

We took a walk and toured a dragon cave, with some aweful looking figurines depicting hell.

On Jan 31, we took a half day boat tour to see Phang Nga Bay, including the James Bond Island. After having been to Halong Bay in Vietnam, Phang Nga Bay is a small disappointment. However, one interesting site is the Muslim stilt village, which has a sign "Tsunami evacuation route" in the village.

On Feb 1, we left Phang Nga and took a bus to Satun, at the south tip of east Thailand. There were some protests on the street, which we were hoping not to have to encounter, especially there are some unrest in southern Thailand. We stayed one night in Satun.

On Feb 2, we took a tuk-tuk taxi to Thammalang, about 10 KM south of Satun. There, we were planning to take the long tail boat to Kuala Perlis, on the mainland of Malaysia. Unfortunately, due to not having enough people, (probably because it was windy and choppy), we did not go to Kuala Perlis.

Instead, we took a bigger ferry to Langkawi, where we stayed for 4 nights. We enjoyed Langkawai (see our next entry).
