Chang Beer!Chang Beer!Chang Beer!

6.4% beer can give you bad hangovers, I'd only had one sip!
We took the train north to Lopburi. Here there were some old temple ruins and the Monkey shrine where the main attraction was the monkeys that inhabit the area. They would take plastic jelly containers off tourists and proceed to unpeel the foil top and squeeze out the jelly. Not sure if jelly is really a monkeys staple diet! That night we ate at a nice restaurant with live music then had a look around town where we stumbled into a vampire den. Well I call it that, we went in and there was no-one in there except about 30 staff and the owner (who we also saw had photos of himself on the wall). He was singing badly on stage. We had 2 cokes and wanted to leave. It took us such a long time to get the bill, they obviously didn't want us to leave and it just felt like something out of a vampire move!

We left the next day and got on a seven hour train journey to Phitsanulok in 3rd class. This meant we had people selling beetles and many other wierd things to eat and drink. In arriving at Phitsanulok we transferred to a

bus to Sukhothai where we got accommodation for the night. The next day we caught the Sawngthaew (a small pick up truck with two benches in the back) to Sukhothai Historial Park. Upon arriving there we rented bikes to get around. We visited lots of old temples with buddhas in. We were then surveyed by Thai students who then gave us a small gift for participating. After we cycled 4 kms to Wat Saphin Hin on top of a hill to get some views.

We caught the bus the following day to Chiang Mai. We visited the Night Bazaar and various Wats the first full day here. Then the second day we took a Sawngthaew up Doi Suthep (1676m) and visited Wat That Doi Suthep at the top. Our next destination was Chiang Rai which had a nice river running through it but not much else. In fact here we saw many old men with young Thai girls. From here we travelled to Chiang Kong then got the ferry into Huay Xai, Laos (our 13th country) where we spent the night.
