From Lijiang we took a luxurious bus (at luxurious prices - but with a no-smoking sign, leather seats, bathroom, and lunch included it made for a nice 9 hour ride) back to the city we love so much: Kunming.

Everywhere we turn in this city we get "Meiyou" (nope, don't have; nope, can't help you; nope nope nope!) As soon as we stepped out of the train station it began to rain. We were thrown out of the internet cafe by an angry waitress because we didn't want to pay the 1 kuai she was chaging us for the internet that didn't work. Within 10 minutes I was in a chinese argument with the hotel attendant who didn't want to stay past 11pm so that I could use the phone in the business room for my UCSD interview, an arrangement I had made with his boss a week earlier. 20 minutes of arguing later I was able to use the phone.

Now, our last morning in Kunming we're headed off on the 8 hour bus ride to Jinhong in southern Yunnan to trek through the Xishuangbanna region for the next few days before crossing the border to Laos.
