Ashley, Heather and Marty jumping in the pool We've been spending the last two months of our lives in Port Douglas, in Far North Queensland. We connected with one of Elnaz’s high school mates (Heather) and ended up being roommates with her and her boyfriend (Marty) for our time in Port Douglas. It has been such a great experience and a great part of our travel.
When we first got here, I got a job as a short order cook at one of the coffee shops that has quite an extensive menu in the cafe, while Elnaz got a glamorous job as a server at one of the very posh restaurants in town. As time went on we realized that if we wanted to save as much money as possible one job wasn't going to be enough so Elnaz managed to secure herself another job at a local bakery and I got on at the same posh restaurant. We both quite liked our jobs, as much as you can like jobs and the people that we worked with were great! We ended up making some pretty good friends here and are a little sad to be leaving to tell the honest truth. A little strange seeing as we

Our pool! can to Australia to travel, not work and live in one location! But I’m sure that as soon as we’re on the road we’ll get right back into it and love our lives again.
Port Douglas has been a great place to spend a very good chunk of time. The great Barrier Reef is just on the door step of the marina, you can do day trips up into the Daintree forest, see crocodiles and heaps of other wildlife, and because it is the true Rainforest of Australia there are bugs everywhere, some way more cool than others!

Thanks for your 'story' and photos. Good to see and hear that you are enjoying yourselves ... and meeting some of OUR (Australian) animals ... and after we met some of YOUR Bears! It's about 30 years since we were up at Port Douglas .... but we didn't get to the Daintree or Cap Tribulation...
