Ok after two and a half days of sitting on buses, ferries, planes and just waiting around we arrived from Thailand to Melbourne around 5 hours later than expected! Once in Melbourne we settled down in our hostel, finally could appreciate hot clean water, which we failed to find in Thailand! The first night in Melbourne gave me a chance to meet up with Matty, Jemma and Beery, some Australian freinds in St Kilda, where we went to the elephant and wheel barrow, in which a good night was had by all (how cheesy)!!!! The first few days in Melbourne leading to christmas we didnt do a great deal, just looked around the city a bit. I also went to see Caulfield play cricket, for those who dont know thats who i played for four years ago when i was last over. It was good to catch up with some old teamates and they won too which made it even better.
The next big event to note was i suppose christmas eve, which as per usual envolved drinking, drinking games and a little/alot of singing. Me and the rest of the boys brought in some goon wine which was 8
dollars for four litres, which is extremely cheap and to be honest you can tell why! We drank this and then went out to southbank with a couple of freinds and went into a bar called pj o'brians where i think the whole of the barmy army were, this resulted in 3 hours of constant singing, so much fun and a little different to christmas eve up the star in Wotton! I spent christmas day with the Graf family who are family freinds and was where i stayed previously. Their were 19 people there in total including three other poms who i new and other members of the family and i was once again extrmely well looked after with a feast of food and drink, thankyou Shaun and Robyn. In the evening i went round to beerys house where their were in total around 45 family members, which made for a great if not a little chaotic atmosphere, even father christmas turned up, and gave to me socks and soap, think i should take the hint! Thanks to the whole beer family. Me, Sam and dean were lucky enough to get ourselves tickets on boxing day to the cricket at
the MCG along with 100,000 other people which as you can imagine made for a awsome atmosphere. I was in the members enclosure with beery and thousands of other aussies so got plenty of stick, but was all good fun, also met up with alot of old freinds who i hadnt seen for a long time! Saw a mr Brian Charles Lara in the members bar which was alos pretty cool and obviosly saw warnes 700th wicket!
The next day saw us take a ramsay street tour, amazing how 5 grown men??????? can get so excited about seeing where neighbours is filmed! went around the school and other parts and obviously went on the road where all the houses are. The 28th saw us all go to the cricket again where we met up with Jen and Jess who joined us in the barmy army which made for enertaining and very loud viewing with one or two humerous songs being sung! Unfortuanatly England lost but that didnt take away from the day. Jen hanged around with us in Melbourne for a few days and we did a few touristy things, including going to the prison where ned kelly was
hung and winning money in the grand casino which is absolutly huge! We also got into beach cricket as we had moved down to ST Kilda beach so much fun!
This led us to new years eve which was complety different to what were used to but was a pretty awsome night. We decided to take advantage of the cheap whisky we brought in thailand and drank and played cards in the hostel, and then at around 11 we headed to federation square in the centre of melbourne along with thousands of others to listen to life music and see the fireworks at midnight it was a pretty amazing atmosphere and a great night was had! The only thing to note before setting of else where was going up to Ballarat with Dave and Birdy to see the prisoners of war memorial where daves grandad has his name along with thousands of others from all the wars! One thing that was surprising about ballerat was that there so called famous lake was completley dry, and that was despite having really bad flash floods the night before we went, was a little weird.
After one more big night in
Melbourne me and Dave set of for a couple of days in Canberra whilst the rest of them did a great ocean road tour which i had already previosly done. The coach trip up to Canberra was a long and tedius one, 8 hours i think in total. Once in Canberra we were invited round Jemma's house for a BBQ which gave us a chance to spent a bit more time with her and Matty, the food and company was great, thanks! The next day made us realise how serial Canberra is considering it is the capital city, it was just so quite the only people we saw were tourists at the so called tourists attractions, it was very strange! We saw the parliament buildings and a pretty impressive war memorial/museum where Dave found some more information on his grandad. So the day in Canberra was pretty quite and relaxing and after staying one more night we headed to Sydney the next morning to meet the rest of the boys!
Right then, once arriving in Sydney we discovered that the boys had already sorted out accomadation which was very cheap and you could tell why, suppose it served the
purpose though! The first day we just really spent walking around looking at the bridge, the opera house and the Botanical gardens. Day two saw us go up the Sydney tower which is the tallest building in Sydney and which obviosly aloud you to see out over the city, their were some pretty amazing sights. We also went to aquarium and wildlife sanctuary at Darling harbour and then me Sam abd Dean took a jet boat tour of the harbour with a difference. Basiically the driver would just bomb round Sydney harbour doing 360 turns and various other tricks, was pretty fun and a different way to see the harbour! That evening we met up with kate riches and her boyfriend in a place called the star bar on george street, was good catching up with them. The last two days in Sydney were pretty chilled as we moved down to Cogee beach, where we spent most of the time on the beach. We also went to the famous Bondi beach which is alright i suppose not quite sure what the hypes all about but we had a good day there playing cricket and just chilling out! The last night
in Sydney we mmet up with Jen again who arrived that day and went to a place called scruffy murphys where they had a really good band, playing lots of songs we all new it was a really good night!
Anyway people, im tired after all this typing, far too much like hard work! Sorry for the lack of people in the pictures, i have been a bit slack on the photography! Take care!
