My Turtle!My Turtle!My Turtle!

She was huge but gorgeous in a turtley kind of way!
It's absolutely roasting here but have actually got a little bit of a tan through all the factor 30 I've been smothering my white Scottish skin in so at least I don't completely stand out a mile anymore!

Went to see loggerhead turtles nesting on a conservation beach near Bundaberg about 5 hours north of Brisbane on Tuesday night. Was an amazing thing to see, definitely a unique experience. Would only have been better if I'd had the beach to myself instead of sharing it with about 40 other people! Managed not to get eaten alive by mosquitoes too, just as well too as my legs already have their fair share of bites & mine go into nice red lumps about twice the size of anyone elses (as katie & my mum will know!) We had to wait for an hour or two before any turtles showed up on the beach to nest but once one arrived they all started coming in at once! We were down on the beach for about an hour watching her finish laying her eggs & then covering up the nest with sand, looks like a lot of hard work, probably not ideal to have 40 people staring at you either but it was something else to watch!

Made it to the Town of 1770 on Wednesday, had a couple of BBQ's outisde just using the free barbie's set up for you, we had one in a park & then one by the beach the next night & we managed to catch the sunset both times.
We went on a trip to the Great Barrier Reef on Friday. Was fantastic, we actually went out to a reef lagoon with Lady Musgrave Island in the middle of it, it's huge & you can just about see the wave rolling in at the edge of the lagoon where the deep ocean meets it. We actually got to go for a trip to the island as well & wander about but the only things living there are birds so not the sweetest smelling place! Then got to go snorkelling on the Reef for a couple of hours but I could have done it all day, you see so much. Saw hundreds of fish & coral of all shapes sizes and colours. Would definitely do it again. Also looked really attractive in my snorkel & flipper unfortunatley no

Took this from the wee semi-submersible boat so not the clearest photo but you can still see the Reef...just!
photos of me in it...damn it!!

Also saw my first kangaroos in the wild on Wednesday morning in a field just near where I was staying in Bundaberg, couldn't believe it I was so excited. There were even two young males boxing each other! Saw some more last night too just in the woody bit behind our deck at the hostel near 1770 until a horse wandered down & frightened them away, one of them was a mum with a Joey in her pouch (aww!)...still can't quite belive I'm seeing kangaoros just wandering around!

Off to Rainbow Beach & then overnight on Fraser Island next, hopefully won't get eaten by a wild dingoe! Made friends with the little Pug dog of the girl staying next door to us last night, was so cute but lived up to his name....Stinky!

Roo's!

Can't see them very well as I couldn't get any closer without scaring them away but you can just about see them if you look really really hard!
