Day of arrival - straight to the beach
After much anticipation, the Endless Summer trip begins. The route will be Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam), China, and then the United Kingdom.

Arriving at Sydney airport bright and early in the morning on January 10th, we were greeted by Megan, her mom, and a welcome dose of bright bright sunshine. It was quite the exciting moment to see Megan again after five months and to get that blast of warmth from the sun. The beautiful sunshine is oh so sweet, especially after hearing of the freezing temperatures and snow at home. The temperatures have been fluctuating between the lows 30s to high 30s.

It's about a two hour drive noth from the Sydney Airport to Summerland Point which is where Megan lives with her parents. Megan and I slipped off to Catherine Hill Beach to catch some rays before dinner. It's her favorite beach and I can see why. It's simply stunning.

Megan's sister Patricia and her boyfriend Peet (yes that is custom spelling) came over for a roast dinner. Oh so delicious. Pat gave me my christmas present that were billabong thongs (flip-flops) and a tank top. Very practical for my upcoming trip.

Megan's dad John (great name..) played tour guide for mom and I as Megan and her mom had to go back to work on Thursday. He took us to the half-dozen local beaches, as well as their plot of land where they're going to build, into Newcastle where we met Megan's mom for lunch at the famous "Harry's Meat Pies". Meat pies are very popular in Australia and Harry's is an icon. There are only two locations but international celebrities often stop by to sample his creations. Delicious.
