Well i've arrived. I haven't been eaten by a lion yet!! I have soo much to say in such a small space of time. The flight over was good. When we arrived in Jo'burg we had to wait for other flights. We got on a small mini bus and made our way down to Moholoholo. It took us 7 hours to drive down including some stops on the way. When we got to Moholo we were greeted by Alis a girl that works there and some other volunteers. She took us to our rooms which, are very nice by the way! Two other girls and I are sharing a room. Our room is called the Reed room and as you can probably guess it is made from reeds. Its beautiful but not so good as we get the most bugs. We also have our own bathroom, lounge and kitchen.
Days start at 7am every morning not that bad but getting up at 4am english time is not good! Between 7am-8.30am we do the feeding duties. There are four different groups. In my group I have vultures, wood owls, tawny eagles, guinea pigs,ex circus lions & a leopard. The guy i'm also with has loads of babies he looks after so I get to help feed his cheetah cubs (they are 7 months old so quite large),5 jackel pups, baby rhino and some others i've forgotten. At 8:30 we have breakfast. We have to walk through the forest to get there. Its about a 10 min walk and we see lots of wildlife on the way. The place we eat breakfast is called forest camp and tourists also eat there. We eat breakfast & dinner there. Its sort of in a little hut and we are surrounded by trees. In the mornings there are lots of Vervet monkeys & they are always trying to steal our food. They are soo cheeky. The way back to Moholo isn't very nice though its very steep and its soo hot here! I think I'm gonna get fit being here!
After breakfast we either go somewhere, watch a video or do some more jobs. The animals at the centre are amazing. They are looked after really well. Its soo weird just having a hippo walking around and just playing with a baby rhino! It is never quiet at Moholo there is always some sort of noise. Just behind my bedroom window there are 2 hyenas, the baby rhino and 2 cheetah cubs. Oh boy do they make a lot of noise at night! It doesn't stop me from sleeping though I quite like it. We have a really tiny baby squirrel at the centre at the moment. We're not quite sure if hes got something wrong with him. Anyway Alis asked if anyone would like to look after him and of course I said yes! I have to feed him milk from a syringe every 3 hours. Hes such a cutie! There are 3 bush babies at the centre. They are soo cute, definetly one of my favourite things at the centre.
Well I guess I should really be coming to an end. I am in an internet cafe in Hoedspruit right now. I haven't even seen the rest of the town and I only have an hour left. I'm going to go buy a S.A sim card which will hopefully save me some money.
