On the MRTOn the MRTOn the MRT

Spacious and roomy - these trains are designed for moving lots of people! Love the 6 minute frequency too.
A sleepness night on the plane had us arriving into Singapore well after the last MRT had run, so we made the decision to take a cab. We were greeted with a friendly "welcome to Singapore" and we exchanged looks about how nice this was. During the trip the looks that we exchanged morphed from smiles and giggles to furtive worried glances as the driver opted to drive in two lanes at once, almost taking out another taxi and several motorcyclists on the drive into the city. Now it's not that the driver was speeding, the reckless driving was because the very tired driver kept nodding off and then the cab would drift into another lane and he would be woken by the onslaught of horns from other drivers. Miraculously we arrived safely in Little India, checked into the hostel and finally slept!

Now to the title of the blog ...
It all started out innocently enough ... free eggs for breakfast at our hostel and the decision was made to make the aforementioned eggs into scrambled eggs, however we were missing one vital ingredient - milk. Luckily there was a store next door to the hostel and we were able to pick up some milk. However it wasn't until the eggs were cracked and the milk was added that we realised that we had picked up banana flavoured milk! Not ones to waste food we decided to continue on undeterred, cooking and then eating our banana infused scrambled eggs, served with a side of toast and jam. While we don't claim to be on the brink on a new culinary discovery, and we certainly wouldn't recommend trying this at home, to be honest they weren't too bad!

Banana eggs proved to be the perfect fuel for day one of exploring singapore. The heat has been stifling and the sun is constant but remarkably Suz has not yet been burnt so we're not sure whether its due to the big daggy hat and oversized sunnies or the lack of obvious hole in the ozone layer?

We wandered and explored Singapore from the consumer commercial heart of the Orchard Road shopping strip to the tourist waterfront precinct and even managed some culture at the Asian Civilisations museum. We rode the buses and the MRT which is awesome ... it was a Sunday evening and the services were still running

This was on Orchard Road and it reminded us of Melbourne!
every six minutes! The MRT is super efficient, clean and they're using Smart card technology which is pretty cool too. We capped off the evening of day one with a jug of beer and some Indian food on the banks of the Singapore river at Boat Quay, followed by a dusk boat cruise along the river.

Today we travelled out to Sentosa Island which is a resort getaway and consists of manufactured beaches, planted palms and imported sand against the backdrop of the industrial chimneys from nearby Jurong Island. It's still quite pretty though and given the heat the water did look inviting but since we'll be on real Sri Lankan beaches in a few days we fought the urge! The Island is kind of like a theme park with lots of different rides and attractions ranging from the interactive merlion to the luge, 4D cinemax and flying trapeze! We opted for the less tacky of the attractions and visited the aquarium which had an 87m moving travellator passing through a tunnel where fishes and sharks swam all around us. Included with the ticket price was admission to the Dolphin Lagoon which featured a stunt show by three dolphins

and four trainers. Jumbo was not on his best behaviour failing to perform for the masses, but the other two put on quite a show including a spectacular backhand air tail kick of a soccer ball - perhaps Singapore is planning for the first ever dolphin in the world cup?

Well that's all from us in Singapore ... tomorrow we fly out to Sri Lanka where the real adventure begins!

It's Dave's fault, and he blames it on the cost of the beer. At $2 for a long neck it would be a crime against drinking not to at least try the local drop...
