Me and Kesava TempleMe and Kesava TempleMe and Kesava Temple

Me taking a pic of myself in front of the Kesava temple.
Yesterday some friends and I took a day trip out past Mysore to see the Kesava Temple. It is a beautiful example of Hoysala style architecture built between 1254 and 1291. The stone slab at the entrance reinvigorated my past desire to be an archaeologist. As a child and teenager I had wanted to be an archaeologist. I loved and still do love old architecture and cultures. As I got older I think I was put off of the path by the fact that it's very hard to make a living. Plus there's a lot of bugs and hostilities from local governments and such.
Either way, I could totally get into just roaming the world and taking pictures. The idea that people slaved away to build these temples without the help of modern technology is astounding. I've seen a lot of Hindu temples in Bangalore, including some pretty recent ones, and while they look fancy, I don't find them all that interesting because they're just manufactured from molds and 21st century technology.
I was able to take pictures inside and outside this temple.

Ewww- bugs
Isn't it lame that the thing that stuck with me the most out of that entire blog was the part about bugs? Lame. I think you made the right choice in not becoming an archeologist. I'm sure there would be lots of spiders and such. Not to mention dried up corpses and bones and icky things like that. Anyhow - I love the picture you took of yourself. Those are always FUN pictures - where you hold the camera out in front of you and take a shot. You're looking good - sorry about the stomache problems. I don't really know what to tell ya except that there is no telling what sorts of unfamiliar organisms live in the food in that part of the world. There's stuff in our food, too, but we're used to it. It may just be a tough adjustment for your system. Hope you feel better. In the meantime - maybe you'll lose some more weight, huh? At least it may be a side benefit. Always a welcome side effect. Anyhow - we miss you. See ya!
