Well after 28 hours of travellling from North Vietnam to Southern Thailand we made it! We took every mode of transport possible from plane, taxi, boat, train, bus and tuk tuk. We were in Vietnam for about a month so we got used to all the bikes, honking, culture, random sales people and touts. Upon returning to Thailand everything seemed so calm to us. The first time we were in Thailand it was overwhelming..now it feels soo relaxed..even Bangkok!
Well when we arrived in Koh Phagnan it seemed like paradise. The town itself is just filled with young people, bars, restaurants, club and shops and there are beautiful beaches that line all sides of the island. We were really worried about finding a place to stay on the island because it is ultra peak season and there are far more people than rooms. To top it off all the rooms are super expensive for people like us that are on a long term travel budget. So we began the search for a room...we looked at about 15 places and they were all full. We were beginning to get worried and then we found a room right on Had Rin beach.
Usually a place on the beach would be nice but not this beach! It is the beach where all the clubs and full moon parties are. They also made us pay for 8 days in advance for our room so we were stuck on the party beach for the whole time. That said we had to party for alot of the time there and had no time to relax.. and we couldnt even think about sleeping untill 4am which is a shock to our usual sleeping pattern of to bed by 12 and up by 8am. Every night there was a different type of party. Full moon, half moon, black moon, quarter moon, pool party, beach party. Too much partying!! Luckily we met a couple great groups of people to spend our nights with. This one couple we met from Wales kept buying us lots of drinks and buckets for some reason. They were really nice. Every time we tried to buy them drinks in return they would not let us!! We plan to meet up again with them soon so maybe then will be our chance.
We were orginally planning to stay for New Years and the full moon
party but we decided to leave early. New years was great fun on the beach but the Full moon party will probably be quite similar. There were about 20 different bars playing all stlyes of music, fireworks going off, fire dancers, and decorations all down the beach. It was an amazing experience with about 25,000 other people. we only stayed up until about 4am but the party went untill noon the next day. I woke up t 7am and went out to see what was going on and there were still thousands of people partying on the beach. The drink of choice around thailand are buckets. For about 6 dollars you get a red bull, coke and bottle of liqour. After our first 2 nights of drinknig we realized that the bottles of liqour were fake and they were not what they said they were! It was rice whisky that is made in Asia for super cheap and sold for the price of liqour. It makes everyone get super drunk and super sick..not a very nice thing to do. Thankfully we noticed what they were doing and now know to only drink the sealed bottles. It was quite scary seeing everyone
Dave and I
drinking the buckets! else drinking the stuff though because they were soo injured, sick and passed out all over the beach. We really saved ourselves.
After a couple days the routine of partying, sleeping, eating, suntanning and swimming became very repititive..We were dying to get off the island and get to a new beach. Luckily we found a girl that bought our room off of us so we didnt have to lose the 75$ we payed up front for the remaining nights we should have been there. The time we spent on Koh Phagnan was defiantly memorable but way too much all at once. We might go back in March to experience a full moon party at the end of the trip but we will see what happens. We then headed off to koh samui. It is much bigger, more developed and the beaches are nicer here..not to much to say about it yet...anyways happy new years everyone!

Party On Dudette!
OMG thinking about that combination of coke and redbull was enough to make me sick aside from that poisonous moonshine! I hope you find a more serene beach to relax / sleep and take in all the beauty! Love ya Beautiful!
