Arrived in Buenos Aires on 12th December (again impressed by the Argentinian buses.. a 13 hour bus ride seems like nothing when you have a wide leather seat and are served dinner and wine.. they even had films and a game of bingo to keep us amused!)

We moved into our shiny new apartment in San Telmo for a month, which between 4 of us ended up cheaper than staying in a hostel. It was so great to be able to unpack the rucksack for a month, have our own kitchen and not share the bathroom with 20 people!

Spent the first few weeks walking the city and checking out the different barrios...
· Tango, plazas, antiques and cobbled roads in old San Telmo
· Tango, football and colourful houses on the waterfront in la Boca
· Posh cafes and the beautiful cemetary in posh Recoleta, where we saw Evita's grave
· Parks, horse racing and casinos in Palermo
· Shopping in El City with thousands of people.. and also checked out a few shopping centres, as had to buy suitable clothes and shoes for job interviews (I figured shorts and flip flops were not appropriate!)

.. and of course we checked out a few clubs.. Sunrise, where we saw Maradona, and Opera Bay where we spent a few fun nights dancing till well past dawn overlooking the city and the water... part of the club is outside so you're in the fresh air and under the stars. A great night life, the city never sleeps! It took a bit of adjustment to get into the new Latin American time zone, but we're now going out for dinner at 11pm, going to a discoteca at 2am and returning home just far too late.. that'll have to stop once I start work!

Spent time with a lot of people we had met in Mendoza.. Mike and English Sebastian, German Sebastian, Wolfgang, Emilio.. and said our sad goodbye to Ronald after 7 weeks! .. and then there were 3!

Xmas was fun but could have been a disaster.. in typical fashion we hadn't organised or booked anything, so decided it would be nice to cook at the flat. We invited Sebastian, Erika and Emilio round for Xmas dinner but didn't really think ahead.. we left it till 7pm on Xmas eve to try and buy the food.. of course at this late hour there were no chickens to be found, but after visiting 4 supermarkets we finally found one (oh, and found out that meat shopping isn't that fun here, there's lots of offally looking things to look at at the meat counter!). On Xmas afternoon we started to cook but hadn't thought to test whether the gas oven in our flat worked, so were panicing a bit when it took us 40 minutes to try and work out how to light it.. but it all turned out fantastically in the end.. roast potatoes and all! .. after dinner we headed to Gibraltar (a "proper pub" near our flat) where Dave took over the pool table for the night, and finished the night off in a plaza in Palermo.

So first impressions of the city are great.. and after 8 months of dossing I have job so i can stay!!! .. am very excited about starting 2007 in Buenos Aires..

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
