Cartahena, caves and ALicante

Yesterday I went to a brilliant Ancient walled city called Cartagena. It was an ancient Roman city and I visited the old roman ampitheatre lots of it was still in tact, there were also Bizantine walls and mosaics. There were roman ruins lying around every corner.

It is a port city and we went for a cruise on a catamaran on the mediterranean! It is really famous as a strong military area with fortresses and canons and walls built into the hills. It was the last city to surrender to Franco during the Spanish civil war. It also had a really old bull ring and university very cool. Had tapas again for lunch yum! Am learning to order my drink, 'una coca-cola light per favore.'

Today I went on another tour to the Cuaves de Canalobre (candelSpain abra caves), it is the highest cave in 150 metres long! It was lit with cool lights that showed the different crystals forming and the calcification and the stalactites and stalagmites. The Spanish guide had heaps of names for the different structures including, the candelabra (hence the name of the cave), the elephant, the dragon and the totem pole.During the Spanish civil war the republic army used it as a secret munitions factory. It was right on the top of mountains so it was a gorgeous view of the surrounds and the meditteranean, can't wait to post the photos, have to wait till I get back to London.

Afterwards we went to the big city of Alicante, I really wanted to see the ancient castle there but it closed for the siesta just as we got there! But it was nice walking around the gorgeous harbour and exploring the city.
