Nicolle the trekker, Nepal
We departed Namche after breakfast & after the initial uphill steps leaving town, the next hour or so was reasonably flat going. Thankfully it wasn't cold enough to snow last night, so the track was dry most of the way. As usual, there was a long uphill section just before lunchtime, but our reward was a good meal & a nice rest before continuing on to Phortse Gaon.

The first hour after lunch was all downhill, which I was loving because it meant my shoes didn't rub my blisters. I got some special plasters from Janet & although I am sure they helped, my feet are still EXTREMELY painful. I'm going to take a photograph tonight & every day from now on, just to remind me of the pain I endured, in case I decide to do anything this CRAZY again.

We arrived in Phortse (3810m) late afternoon, after around six or seven hours of trekking to cover the nine kilometres from Namche Bazaar. It was a tough last hour, all uphill & my blisters look (and feel) painful. I am keping them uncoverd whenever we're not walking in the hope the skin will harden up & the pain

will subside - fingers crossed. I can't really complain though, it's my own fault for not wearing in my boots closer to the trek. It was easier to wear flip flops (thongs) around Kathmandu because you're foever putting them on & taking them off going into & out of homes.

Finally succumbed to a shower after four days... Both Sam & I had ben washing in the room each morning using warm water from the large thermos' purchased from the teahouses. The overwhelming need to wash my hair took over & I figured it was a good place as the common room was warm enough for it to dry quickly; plus it is probably the last place until after base camp. The shower was in a little out house alongside the teahouse. It was gravity fed from water heated inside & poured into a bucket on the roof. Apart from being almosst scalding & very quick, I managed to get everything washed before the water ran out & walked out feeling a million dollars.
