Check out the 'Lego green' colour of the water! Would be fantastic for a summer swim.
It was relieving to pick up the pace a bit in Switzerland after the dozy French regional cities (although we were in those places on a Sunday and Monday). We arrived in the Swiss capital, Bern, on Tuesday night and were lucky to get out of the train station without any bruises! The nightlife here was more exciting, with an old world feel around the town. The next day, we wound our way around the River Aare - I haven't seen a river as clear as this for a very long time. The air was also so clean and wonderful to breathe.

On Wednesday, we moved on to Interlaken, at the foot of the Alps. Again, a lively place but heavily fogged in. Cans of VB were on sale in one of the local pubs, but they looked a bit dusty. The weather cleared on Thursday, so we ventured up in rickety rail carriages to the Jungfrau, the highest readily accessible point in Europe, at about 4100 metres. It was an amazing sight across the peaks, about minus 5C in the midday sun, with glaciers and an ice cave (see photos). The highlight of the trip so far!

How the hell do you pack all those winter clothes????
Switzerland, how stunning. It's post card perfect. I think you should both braid your hair and skip down a mountain. It sounds like the pubs are getting a work out ( almost as much as the feet) Are you fanatising about pedicures???
