Xmas in BrisbaneXmas in BrisbaneXmas in Brisbane

Okay, so its bright blue sky, its 27 degrees and they've got a xmas tree! This upside down thing is still too much for me!
As the humidity finally kicks in Peter finds comfort in the air conditioned internet cafe, and remembers about the whole blogging thing....

So then - Australia! I started in Brisbane where I stayed for a few nights with Nene and Denise (who I meet at the Wilderness Park in NZ back in September). I arrived in a thunder storm complete with tennis ball sized hail and 35 degrees heat, well this is different to Auckland I thought! Alas it didn't last long, and since its been what I consider to be 'far too hot' but what Queenslanders like to call, 'really mild', crazy people! Brisbane was pretty nice, cute city with a vibrant night life and cool galleries. I had a great day with the Koalas and thier mates at the local santuary, got to go kayaking and otherwise hung out with the girls. This was a great way to start the trip, having local to point me in the right direction.

From Brisbane I headed up to Noosa, a nice little holiday town on the evrglades. Mainly I was here for a three day trip to Fraser Island - the largest sand island in the world, where you ride on the beach, aviod the sharkes and the dingos, get drunk, then swim in the amazing fresh water lakes. Having my fill of the drunken tourists I then headed to Bundaberg as i'd heard something about turtles! At first I thought I might have made a mistake, Bundy being like a hot version of Hastings, but the turtles were totally worth it. This was by far the best thing i've done in months. The company are helping to increase the number of logger head tutrles by helping the females lay there eggs in the best place. Not only did we get to watch them lay the eggs close up (they are apparently 'drugged up on the joy of motherhood'), but also to help move the eggs to the new nest. Great! The next day I got quite tipsy reviewing the towns other attraction, the Bundaberg Rum Distillary, seems i'm developing a habbit of visiting places that make booze, strange that! After my frist night on the bus (great fun, brought back memories of Mexico, though this bus didn't stop in the middle of the night an kick me out) I arrived in Airlie Beach, which despite its name doesn't really have a nice beach. Being a tourist sheep I did have to try a day sailing in the Whitsundays, went to a beach that is meant to be th 'nicest beach in the world', honestly where do they get this crap? It was very nice. Snorkeling in the reef, however was 'something to write home about', by far the best i've done, just like Nemo and friends.

On the backpacker grapevine i'd heard about a island that was meant to be nice, so I set out the next day to Magnetic Island to live with the animals. I satyed at a hostel that was more like a campsite-come-wild life park. I feel like I was wwoofing again, being woken up by the anmials and I loved it. It was a really relaxing place, with very little to do but hang around in the pool and wait to feed the parrots in the afternoon. This was great too, at one point I think I had six parrots on me at once, even a full scale war when one tried to move into the place the other guy wanted on my hand! Magnetic Island was quite like Rarotonga, with whole

holiday atmosphere, great way to end the trip!

Well its not quite over yet....I'm still in Cairns for the next few days and might find something else interesting to visit, those rainforests look nice...... See you all next week... yes i'm getting to London next Monday! At least you will not have to read these stupid blogs anymore! Pete x
