Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert is a shopping arcade built in the mid 19th century.Speed sightseeing in Brussels
We ended up in Brussels in Belgium on the way from France to Luxembourg. This wasn't in our original plans but we decided to try to make the most out of it.
Going from rural areas in England and France, where we had spent one week, to a major city where thousands of people roam the streets was a bit of a shock for us. We had a bit of a problem adjusting to the crowds of people.
We only had a couple of hours in the evening and two hours in the morning to see some fragments of all that Brussels has to offer. We had to rush things a bit to see anything and ended up doing speed sightseeing to see at least a few highlights. Speed sightseeing is not something we normally do and nothing we recommend. Luckily for us, many of the major attractions in Brussels are in the city centre at a very short distance from each other. Another lucky thing, we can easily go back to Brussels and see things again in a more leisurely pace. Well, the things we saw are the
Manneken Pis
This sculpture is just as much a symbol for Brussels as the Statue of Liberty is for New York City or the Eiffel Tower is for Paris. following.

Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert - a shopping arcade built in the mid 19th century. They could really build arcades back then. It is quite different from modern shopping malls. It is a classic beauty and a piece of art.

Grand Place - The central square in Brussels. All around the square there are ridiculously adorned and grand buildings such as various guildhalls and the town hall. The square is world heritage site by the way. We have added several photos from Grand Place. But to give you a better idea of what it looks like we have also added a video where we made a kind of panorama of Grand Place

Manneken Pis - A surprisingly small sculpture of a little boy who is urinating. This sculpture is just as much a symbol for Brussels as the Statue of Liberty is for New York City or the Eiffel Tower is for Paris. For the first time visitor in Brussels it pretty much is compulsory to visit it. By the way, some special days they actually dress the statue. When we were there it was the Belgian national day and that is one of those special
Grand Place
Grand Place is the central square in Brussels. days. So we got to see the statue wearing a uniform.

Jeanneke Pis - A sculpture of a little girl who is urinating. It was created as a female version of the far more famous sculpture mentioned above.
• Cartoons - In Belgium they are proud of their famous cartoons. When we walked around the streets of Brussels we saw one mural depicting Tintin and Captain Haddock and one mural showing a scene from cartoon Gaston.
Did you know that they in Brussels have a statue of "Muscles from Brussels", Jean-Claude van Damme? Ake saw it when
he was in Brussels a few years ago. Luckily van Damme isn't urinating like many of the other statues in the Belgian capital. You don't really want to see a statue of
