12.08.2019. Our first full day in Budapest, we caught a HOHO bus this morning and spent a few hours being driven around Budapest. What a grand old city is it too. The architecture is wonderful. The temperature was hot, 33 or so, but luckily we could sit under the sunshade on the top deck. At some stage the driver decided to pull the awning right across the top of the bus, which was a jolly good idea! Aussie weather it reminded us of but even we don’t sit out in all that sun! The traffic was very heavy today so it was slow going on HOHO but we did the full circuit and opted for an early lunch.

This afternoon, we found a beaut restaurant on the Pest side of the river where we had a few drinks and a wonderful dinner and a Hungarian waiter with a great sense of humour! Like most people we have met, they’re amazed we’ve travelled so far to visit their country. A table behind us had suspicious looking characters sitting at it – mmm, who are these blokes, reminded us of The Godfather! No, they were the four piece orchestra who played beautiful music to entertain us as we were eating!

After our dinner we took a Danube river cruise to see the sights at nighttime, us and several thousand other people! Talk about a money spinner! Our cruise lasted an hour and we enjoyed all the beautiful buildings lit up – the Parliament being the most spectacular.

13.08.2019. After a late lazy breakfast we caught the Budapest Castle Bus to Buda Castle which a part of we can see from of our hotel window. Buda Castle is the historical castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings of Budapest. It was first completed in 1265, but the massive Baroque palace today occupying most of the site was built between 1749 and 1769. The small buses pick up and drop off at various sites around the Castle so we were able to stroll around and take it all in. Unfortunately the amount of tourists didn’t allow for good photos so I’ve ‘borrowed’ a few!

Today was our last day in Budapest. It truly is a beautiful city, too much to take in on a short visit. We had dinner at the restaurant next to the hotel where we’d eaten on our first night. The waiter remembered us and asked whether we ate kangaroo, surely we didn’t! Yes, said John, I do! He was horrified and said oh, go and sit down and brought us drinks anyway!

Tomorrow we are off to Zagreb in Croatia via train. Wonder how that will go?

Budapest
Another place I've often thought I'd like to visit!! As I want to do my usual places one more time I'm not sure if I'll have the strength to carry my suitcase or the long distance travel by then as age will be a consideration!! I don't like the thought of that let alone saying it out loud, yikes I need a drink!!!!
