David and Gene telling old cop stories!
Weather in Wyoming makes it hard to sit on the back patio! June 5
This morning I tried to let David slept in. Red’s appointment wasn’t until 1pm. I called family and let them know what was happening so they wouldn’t worry. Finally David and I got our showers after a late breakfast and we loaded up the dogs and headed for the vets. All the vets we had known here in Laramie have long since retired or died but family gave us advice on whom to see. We took Dottie in too just in case the vet found something they’d both need to be treated for. Dottie has not shown any symptoms and Red has been sick for 10 days now. The vet and staff were so friendly and we quickly felt comfortable that we’d get some help for Red. They even smiled when we gave them Red’s sample from this morning! LOL. The vet was Dr. Walker and she was so great with Red. She examined him and we were so shocked to find out that he now weighs 85 lbs. No wonder we are having trouble when he pulls on the leash. Last night he lunged and hit the end of the least pulling David right off his feet in
the grass and then spinning David like a top on his back as Red made a big circle around him. Thankfully I missed all that excitement. Dr. Walker said she was pretty sure he had a normal bacterial overgrowth most likely from stress. She said it was very common. She checked his sample for worms etc and returned confirming it was a normal flora overgrowth. She gave him a weeks worth of antibiotics and some probiotics as well. She said if he wasn’t significantly better in two days bring him back. We left after paying the bill and all of us felt relieved it wasn’t something more serious. Stress, I thought, he wasn’t driving in the snow, what the heck! I’m the one who should have stress induced overgrowth instead of a backache! LOL.
The rest of the afternoon was spent getting hugs from family and enjoying their warm hospitality. Red and Dottie had a grand time running free in the backyard and getting acquainted with Suzy-Q. Suzy is a 12 year old black lab that dearly loved Budd, and he loved her. I think she really misses old Budd. Red and Dottie had met Suzy at thanksgiving when they were only 3 months old. Red seemed to be afraid of Suzy, well very nervous but Suzy at her age was just resting most of the time in the cool grass. Dottie didn’t seem to care either way just happy to be checking out the yard on her own.
We all headed out to the Rib & Chop house for dinner which was fun. Ok meal but the company was so great. We headed home to an early bed since David hadn’t slept all that well. Red seemed to be already feeling better. He got his second dose of antibiotics and he was off to bed.

love your posts!
I've so enjoyed reading about your travels (adventures!) thus far, but especially great to see the picture of my cousins today. Also glad that Red checked out okay with nothing serious at the vet. Love to all from Joe and Dorys's girls, Daphne Wiegand Anderson
