Beautiful Swiss houses along Stadthausquai in Zürich.
With a six hour layover between flights in Zürich I decided to make a visit to the downtown Zürich.
The city centre is only 12 mins by train from the airport, and there are trains at least every 10 mins, so getting there was a piece of cake.

I spent a lot of time in Switzerland as a child, I was there almost every summer during a few years, but now I had not been there for well over 10 years (with the exception of one day in Geneva).
I had almost forgotten what a beautiful place Zürich is, it is really a lovely little city (well it isn't that large).
But I have to admit I did not really recognise everything, the railway station and Bahnhofstrasse I recognised straight away, but other than that...
I guess simply too much time has passed.

After a visit to the Swiss arrivals lounge at the airport (where I had a very well needed shower) I was in much better shape and ready to explore Zürich.
I took a train around 7.30 am from the airport to Zürich Hbf, no lack of trains this morning, and no lack of people either, right

in the middle of rush hour. The train was packed!

I walked around Zürich for about an hour. The tourist information desk at the railway station was not open at 7.45 am so I had to survive without a map but managed quite well anyway, the city is quite easy to navigate.
Really fun to have a look around, especially after such a long time, and I took quite a few photos as well.
The only problem was that nothing was open at 8 am, and it was bloody cold as well, something like 4 degrees. Being a newly arrived visitor from Hong Kong (where it was 29 degrees) I was really not dressed for such a cold weather, and after a while the walk was not very enjoyable anymore.
Already at 9 am I decided to finish my sightseeing tour and go back to the airport, well I had some more first class lounges waiting for me as well 😉 But it was still great to have a look around, and nice to stretch my legs as well after 13 hours on a plane.

The flower market close to the Zürich lake has just opened. It's a cold morning and people are on their way to work, warmly dressed!

Bahnhofstrasse! That McDonald's was there 10 years ago as well.

Bahnhofstrasse, which goes from the railway station (die Bahnhof) to the Zürich lake. This is the main shopping street in Zürich.

The main railway station, Zürich Hauptbahnhof. Switzerland is a railway country, the network is very extensive and you can go by train pretty much everywhere!
