We have finally got around to doing the first installment of the travelblog. It's harder to get the time/PC than you might think.

We flew into Bangkok from Sydney with British Airways, they thought we were newly weds (thanks to the Travel agent). We have been married for a couple of years, so it was a stretch.

Our hotel was right near the river in Bangkok and it looked to be getting closer. The river was overflowing because the floods from northern Thailand were meeting the tide coming in. Catching a ferry required at the very least getting your feet wet, and sometimes dodging a man with a sandbag. Probably more fun for us than the people travelling to work.

Bangkok was as busy as everybody had said, so there is always something to do if you don't mind chewing the air to breath. Riding a Tuk tuk through Bangkok traffic proves that seat belts, helmets, emission controls and keeping to your own lane does increase life expectancey at the expence of fun.

After a couple of days of seeing the sights of Bangkok we headed off to Kanchanaburi for 2 days 1 night. The itinery included seeing the River Kwai, riding elephants and patting tigers.

The tigers seemed to be heavily sediated and just lying there, while tourists were lead over to pat them. It was a bit upsetting to see these big animals reduced to a "stuffed" animal. After seeing a distressed Sun Bear chained up while tourists were posing with it, we decided to leave the Tiger temple.

The elephant riding was exciting, especially when they try to grab the leaves of power lines.

We then headed back to Bangkok to stay over night and catch a train first thing in the morning to Chiang Mai. The train was two hours late for its 12 hour journey.

Looks Tough
Hi Guys, Looks like you're doing it really tough, I'm glad you found the tigers but it's a shame they have them drugged (looks very obvious in the photos), hope all is well it certainly looks like your enjoying yourself. Nothing much going on back here just the usual work and not much play. Hope to see more great photos and hear some more great adventures from Thailand very soon. Cheers, Brewy P.S. Johns hope you didn't catch anything from standing in that water, it looked really clean!!!!
