Maranilla, Piedra Peñol & Guatapé

We met our bus tour at Parque Poblado, 7.30am, our earliest start yet. At 7.31 we heard some loud American voices and knew straight away it was going to be a long day.
Our first stop was for breakfast, where we were served a hot watery drink they called ‘coffee‘ and some sort of plastic pancake topped with emulsion paint.
45 minutes late we arrived in the small town of Maranilla. By this time, we had learned that our American friend was 99%!v(MISSING)egan and enjoyed the sound of his own voice.
Maranilla was a cute little traditional town, and Hayley purchased a lovely handbag for £4.82.
We then headed to the Piedra Peñol, a rock with a climb of 675 steps. We ran off the bus avoid our comrade, and began the climb. Worth the sweaty climb to experience the view from the top. Once we had descended, a cold beer was required and some undercooked chicken.
Back on the bus we headed to the town of Guatapé. A colourful town with plenty character and home of the ‘Zocolos’ emblems or symbols that each house must have painted on the front. After buying
some souvenirs and watching Russia lose on penalties we jumped back on the bus and headed back to Medellín. We refrained from punching our American friend when he made a comment about the Scottish accent, purely due to our tiredness.
Facts of the day (for Emma)
- Americans have lots of useless knowledge (Veganism, German bikes, accents....)
- Americans like to make sure the whole bus knows this useless information
- Hayley only said ‘ffs’ once
- The low windows in the houses in these towns were built this way to allow parents to spy on their children courting. (The Americans probably already knew that)
