The aim had always been Budapest. But like the end of a good book, one wishes it would just go on.

Anyway, our trip is only half over. Now we are on our own, deciding for ourselves what to do each day, where to go, what and when to eat...

Stay tuned for: Budapest, Bratislava, Brno, Prague, Berlin and Amsterdam.

The end of our "Classic European River Cruise", a time of learning and luxury. A very special and extravagant way to celebrate Phil's 80th and my 70th birthdays. I would like to give great congratulations and credit to Gate 1 Travel ("More of the world for less") for such a well organised and pleasant trip.

Budapest is actually 2 cities put together: Buda on the western, hilly bank, and Pest on the eastern, flat bank.

And the city is awash with tourists. I counted 10 river cruisers docked.

Eight bridges span the Danube River, joining the two cities of Buda and Pest. The very first was the Chain Bridge, built in 1849.

As our bedroom was mostly below water level, many times I peered out our windows at the passing waves at eye level.

Budapest Architecture
The architecture in Budapest looks like an amazing combination of very old and ornate, as well as very modern - and very big in both cases! Does it feel like a bustling, growing city?

Goodbye Monarch Queen
So pleased to see that you've had such a wonderful time on your boat. But certainly your B&B in Budapest looks good. And Budapest looks it's a great place to explore. Enjoy!! M xx
