La Laguna just below my brother's house Have a brother, or any other family member/friend you get along well with, in the country you are planning on visiting. Preferably one with a nice house and plenty of space to put you up. Travel with your mum, who prefers to get a cab when arriving at the airport instead of the local bus, saving you time, if not money. It is also way more comfortable. Don’t worry too much about the money, as your mum will insist you only pay the amount you would normally pay for that bus you didn’t take.
Request a cold beer be put in the fridge by said brother for when you finally arrive at his house. There is nothing like a refreshing beer after a very long and turbulent flight. Sleep in that nice comfy bed that has been prepared for you. Don’t plan anything for the first week. Just hang around and enjoy the company. Swim in the pool in the morning to wake up, walk around the little lake just below your brother’s house in the evening for exercise. Play croquet with your nieces. Read a good book. Savour the wonderful food you get every day. Watch in amazement as

At the lake your brother roasts a cow-rib on his barbeque. That thing is big! Go for a day trip with your brother and his family and your mum to Miraflores for fine views and more good food. Watch a good film on the TV at night, or sit at the fake open-fire that your worthy brother has built in the living room.
Help out in the house where you can. Do dishes, clean the pool, cut the grass, because your brother and his wife are busy people and they appreciate not having to do those things when they come home from a long day’s work. Put up shelves in the bathroom for your niece so your brother doesn’t have to. Try and put up new lights attached to new socket/plug combinations, and fail, short-circuiting the whole thing, because you don’t understand Peruvian wiring which isn’t colour coded, plus you were never really good with electricity. But at least you tried! Have your brother come home and tell you what you did wrong and fix the problem.
Sit in various nooks and corners of the house. Sometimes on the patio outside the pool, other times on the balcony upstairs overlooking the

Evening walk lake, and yet other times in the living room. Swim a bit more and play games in the pool with your nieces. Drink a few more cold beers, and a wine or two in the weekend. Prepare for the upcoming part of the trip which requires actual travelling and doing things. But enjoy the fact that for now you don’t have to do anything and can just relax. Talk. Think. Smile. Love.
Life is good when you have somebody waiting for you on the other side. Life is good when you don’t have to look for a cheap hotel first thing after a 24 hour flight, or worse, sleep on a hard bench in an airport lounge waiting for an internal flight which only leaves once a day. Life is good when you don’t have to worry about transport, food or even money as soon as you touch down in a foreign country. Life is good when you know that for the first ten days you don’t have to do anything, and you can sleep of that jet-lag with not a problem in the world. Life is good when you can take it easy and prepare for the travelling

Pigeon part of your journey in peace. Life is good when you know you will be rested and relaxed when that part finally arrives. Yes, life is good with a brother in Lima!
But don’t fret if you have don’t have anybody waiting for you. You will manage. To make it more agreeable, get yourself a nice hotel, within your budget, preferably in a nice location. Somewhere with nice staff and where you feel comfortable. And stay there until you feel ready to start your trip. Sure it isn’t as good as a brother, but it works just fine.
Soon we will be starting the travelling part of our trip, and we have booked a nice and cheap hotel for the first four days. And though we will arrive at an unholy hour at the airport, it won’t bother us, because we will take a taxi to our hotel and have a bed waiting for us. And the next morning we will have a free breakfast and when we leave to explore this new city, we will feel refreshed and excited. We will be ready for the next adventure, thanks to ten days of relaxation at the Kreuze residence

Great advice...
and I'm sure your brother and sister-in-law appreciated you doing the chores and playing with your nieces!
