The view from the apartmet I was crashing at while in Vancouver
The first leg of the journey to Australia finds me in Vancouver. Even though this is my first trip to Vancouver, I'm not really looking to do the tourist thing, but mainly visit friends I haven't seen in awhile. I managed to catch Vancouver during a nice weather system that has had it raining pretty good for the whole time I've been here and even set records I believe. That didn't stop me though from doing a little tour around the downtown area to get a feel for the city. After three hours out in the rain with no umbrella, still have yet to ever own one, I was completely soaked but managed to walk through a good portion of the downtown core. Even though it has rained non-stop, the temperature is mild so I have found it quite refreshing.

Vancouver reminds me a bit of Ottawa in that the city is never uncomfortably busy even during rush hour. The thing I like most about the city is that it lies right against the mountains which make for a great back drop. Mainly because of the rain, I was never carrying my camera with me so didn't get any shots

Another view from the apartment.
or that or of the nice area of gas town or Chinatown or even of a Beluga dropping a deuce at the aquarium. There were a couple reprieves in the weather and took a couple pics from the 23rd floor of the apartment building of my buddy Josh where I was crashing the whole week.

One surprising thing around town is that all the burger fast food restaurants are few and far between. One McDonalds is all I've seen the whole time here, but there are a few Subways. Another thing that I liked here was that every other place was a Sushi restaurant and if was all really cheap too! Had sushi a few times and even found an all you can eat place (see picture of bill). Between 3 of us, we had over 120 pieces before calling it quits.

Next leg is on to Hawaii via LA so I get to look forward to around 8 hours on the plane tomorrow.
