We needed a break from beaches and cheap stuff so whats the most expensive country in the world to live In. Well singapore claims that dubious distinction for itself. Flying out of Cambodia was only a shock in that we left a 3rd world airport to land In probably the most modern airport in the world. After a somewhat slow immigration we were off by taxi to the Park Avenue Rochester hotel. Very nice rooms. But no free breakfast. No big deal as we were within a block of dozens of eateries. Also one block from a major MRT station with two different subway lines. These subways are amazing clean safe and fast. Only 5 or 6 minutes between trains. Just look at the colored map on the wall pay your 80 cents and get on that colored train.

Visited mall across the street from our hotel, the Marina Sands hotel complex and the gardens by the bay. We intended to get Marie a steak for her 70th birthday at Wolfgang Pucks in the Marina Sands but at $180 per person I couldn’t eat that I would have to have it bronzed and bring it home for a souvenir. So we went to Gordon Ramsey’s place instead excellent food with a complementary birthday cake for way less than getting Pucked by the Wolfgang. We also had a dinner on the 57th floor (roof) of the Marina Sands hotel. What a view!!!

5 days later we has a flight to Langkawi Malaysia. Beatiful island and a gorgeous resort. Meritus Palangi Resort is just amazing. It has about 1/2 mile of its own gorgeous beach, 2 huge swimming pools that do not use chlorine and 2 free buffet breakfast. One is oriental and one is a western food theme. We took one day and took the cable car excursion up to the sky cab peak. From sea level up up to over 5000 feet, is the most vertical cable car ride in the world according to them I pretty sure that excludes Switzerland. Nice of the island, but crowded long queues.

Next flew to Kuala Lumpur or KL as every body in SE Asia calls it. Probably nobody has spell check. The airport taxi booths tried hard get us to take a taxi to our hotel down town. But since it was rush hour in one of the most traffic congested cities in the world we opted for the express train to the center of KL and the monorail to within a couple hundred yards of the Shangri-La hotel. Saved an hour in traffic and 40 Malaysian Ringets. By then I’m completely spun out on which money is what. Good thing my money manager is with me (marie).

The Shangri-La hotel is nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in (5 stars) elegant rooms, world class service and a breakfast buffet that looks like it belongs on a cruise ship. Got to see the outside of the twin towers highlighted in the movie “Entrapment“ with Sean Connery. So a hot travel tip is don’t go to the towers on a Monday as that’s when they are closed to tourists. The Aquarium was open. Checked it out, fun watching the divers feed the sharks and sting rays. Went thru the ultra modern shopping center but didnt buy anything. Not enough Ringets and no room in our back packs.

Our next destination is back to Thailand to Krabi and some serious Island hopping.
