Happy New Year Everyone! In with the new and out with the old.....good! good! good! Actually, 2017 was a good year for us UNTIL THE END.
We met our desired goal by having our auction to sell off all our antiques & collectibles plus more. Our house and property are in shape to be put on the sales market. Our oldest son, Cory, relocated from N.C. back into our area and continues to work in an accomplished position for the Corning Glass Company. His daughter, Rachael, graduated from college and is pursuing her doctorate at the University of Alabama. Our daughter, Kim, changed jobs from SUNY Geneseo to SUNY Binghamton; enhancing her career. Their daughter, Haley, graduated from high school and began college at Miami University in Ohio. Our daughter, Lory, remains a loyal and important employee of The Air Preheater Company where her father worked for 40 years. She is president of their school board. Their son, Alan, and his girlfriend, Brittany, became engaged. Our youngest son, Tim, remains steadfast with Wegman’s climbing their ladder of success while being a devoted father to Conner. All of our family members have done very well this year and as always, we
are blessed and proud to be all of one family.
However, as mentioned earlier, the end of 2017 brought us some hurdles and bumps in the road. Enough trying to make lemonade from lemons. It leaves a sour taste in your mouth after while. We are putting those snags behind us and moving on into 2018. A New Day - a New Year.
But what recently could have happened to burst our happy bubble you ask. We have discussed a couple of the trying issues previously....but there are more.
Catharsis time!
It all seemed to begin right around the start of the Holiday Season (last couple weeks of December)....bah, humbug. First, my blood pressure went cafluey...too high. I just felt bad all over and dumped around like a big mess. Nurse Cory did his best to take care of me but I’m a difficult patient. Lulu tried to be his assistant but she has such limitations. Finally, with some medication adjustment, I returned to my old self. Whether that is good or bad....you can decide yourself. Cory developed a pain on his side. Between Google and myself, we came up with a plan of treatment and
it has subsided. After an evening out for dinner, I spent the night suffering through food poisoning. Of course, you all know the horrendous tale of our planned departure trip to Florida that took us only as far as the end of town. We are still working and waiting for all that to be resolved so we can give it another shot....soon we hope. Sometime this week? We hope and pray. Please pray for us. We need all the help we can get to insure our safe arrival at our destination in Florida: Tropical Palms...once we get going.
But wait, I’m not done with our tail of woes yet. I hope you have been feeling sorry for us....I thrive on sympathy. Our daughter, Kim, was in 2 separate automobile accidents (neither her fault)on the same day just before heading home to Rochester. Fortunately, she was okay but her car was worked over bad. Our grandson, Ryan, hit a deer on Christmas Day...oh, dear! And the final whammy came yesterday (New Years Eve) when our grandson, Alan, was taken to a Buffalo, NY trauma hospital after rolling over his snowmobile. His collarbone is fractured and displaced. He will need surgery
later this week to realign and plate it. It could have been so much worse. Scary. We were glad we were still in town so we could be with him. Once we got home, we propped ourselves up to welcome in the New Year by watching the ball drop on TV. Rats! Crap! ....fell asleep at 11:45 P.M. and woke up at 12:15 A.M. So much for that.
Okay....can you see why we are looking in a forward direction now? The quote by German philosopher, Friedrick Nietzche “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.” I guess so....we aren’t dead so we must be stronger...but it was a close one that night after the food poisoning.
Mother Nature has been real nasty, too. We don’t like her at all. The temperatures in our area (as well as many other places) have been rotten. Freezing! Freezing Cold! Actually, Below Freezing....20 degrees below zero last night! Crap! Everything is very still and quiet outside. No one and nothing ventures out. Only the wind is moving around out there. It doesn’t help that we know there’s another opposite life going on a thousand miles south of us. Suntans, sunglasses and
ECMC
Cory enters to see Al shorts. Had everything gone as planned (but one needs to remember to expect the unexpected), we would be arriving, unpacking and setting up our RV today in Florida. The sun would be beating down on us and we would be dripping sweat after our busy work. Enough blubbering! Suck it up, Guenter.....such is life!
Truly, Cory and I are always excited when a New Year begins. We have our big wall calendar hanging in the kitchen .... pretty much a blank slate except for future doctor and dentist visits already made. We wonder what will fill each one of those days we share together. Any and every event gets documented each day it occurs. By the end of a month, it looks like a big scribble pad....but that’s our life! Our written record, our reference book, our diary. These annual bundles have been saved and stored away for years. No photographic memory needed here. We just paw through our calendar pages to relive an event. Don’t fret that our walls can’t talk...our calendars tell it all!
So as we stroll into 2018, we wish you all a Happy New Year and Happy Days! Our lives are blessed with
Al & Brittany
Al has a fractured collarbone some of the most amazing people. Thank you for being a part of our journey. May the sky be the limit for your happiness in this New Year and always.
Just another reminder....there are 12 photos so remember to scroll way, way down. Don’t want you to miss the last beauty.
