Two very different days - walking the dog
Meet Holly my new travelling companion she has a lot more energy than me !!! She is Victoria's housemates dog and she is adorable - she also has me pegged as a soft touch and as she is currently sleeping on the bed next to me, she may well be right !!!!
"Bring the silly lady toys and she will throw them - bring her rabbit and she will play tug of war with me - she throw's sticks into the water for me time and time again - she lets me sleep on her bed" Well Holly and I have been on some walks the past two days:
Yesterday
We, Victoria and I, took Holly on a very steep walk up Queenstown Hill. It is not a Hill. They do not know what a Hill is. The journey was relentless with between 45 and 60 degree inclines for the whole trip. When I say the whole trip, that is a lie, because I had a hissy fit when we reached the loop (that had promised to be flat) and saw that it was just as relentless as
the rest of the "hill" which I am pretty sure makes mountain status. So we came back down before we hit the stunning views.
From there we went to the beach - can you have a beach on a lake? - anyway we went to the beach and had a lovely lunch with virgin bloody Mary's. Then we walked the length of the beach (trust me this is no great feat) and headed off into town. Where we bought stuff specifically raw food, vegan, chocolate, orange balls (I would have to say they are as good as those dark chocolate healthy bars that Perry sells down at the gym - both give you that full on chocolate hit so you don't need to eat anything sweet for about a week !!!)
Then back along the beach to play in the water. I paddled. It was cold. I can confirm it was glacial water. I can also confirm that you need to reapply your sunscreen after paddling or you burn the tops of your feet - which is not a great look.
From there we took a walk along the (mmmm not sure what to call it I
would have said coastal path but it isn't a coast it is a lake so ...) the path around lake Wakatipu - just not all the way around as it 112 sq miles - around the side of the lake. But it is a lovely walk and the views were stunning (I think I may say that a lot here! you have been warned). Then back through the botanical gardens with ridiculously huge trees and all the time trying to keep Holly from joining in the games of Frisbee Golf - yes that is a thing - and no we did not play as Holly does not get the rules at all !!!
Today
Having been abandoned by Victoria - she has gone to the Rhythm and Alps Rave for new year (and I am not too old to go to a Rave, and I would happily go, but I am not camping with 25 yr olds and this is her last weekend with her boyfriend) - so I am home alone - well not that alone as there are still Victoria's 3 flat mates (the 4th is off travelling).
Anyway I wanted to go to Lake Hayes
- I had been reliably informed it was and 8k walk - which is true it is an 8k circular walk - what Victoria failed to mention was the 5k walk to get there and then the 5K walk to get home again !!! It is very beautiful and no where near as mountainous as Queenstown Hill. So we walked there, all the way around, and back home for lunch. Picking a wild peach to snack on as we went (to be fair Holly did not snack on the peach).
After a little rest ,and a yummy lunch. Holly and I decided to take a trip out to the local mountains we went over Billies Bridge and up up up and away into the mountains - deer, sheep, birds and bunnies abound. After an hour and a half we decided to turn back mainly as I had no idea where I was going. We came back an walked along the river (which to be fair seemed to be a much longer route then I remembered).
Holly likes boys and keeps accosting them she runs up to them and makes friends and if they are led down without a shirt on she goes over and licks them. If you ignore that and her complete lack of bike awareness (e.g. see bike - stop in the centre of the track - stare) then she is such an amazingly good doggie and very pretty and she loves me lots :-) and she is currently having running dreams on the bed next to me (I do not know if she is even allowed in here but she opened the door on her own so how could I say no? and she brought me bunny !!!
