SONGS OF THE DEAR DEPARTED. Their music shall live forever...Lest we forget. Post your tribute here.
One winter in Nthn China escaping the pollution of Datong...hoping the coal smoke would not chase us South...a 383 km taxi ride to the ancient walled city of Pingyao. Alleys covered in ice...minus 20 degrees celsius...thinking "What have I got us into?"
That night over dinner in the Ming Dynasty inn...children letting off crackers in the dark cobbled streets.
There was music...ethereal in this magic icy locale...just for us...vocals in English...gave us goosebumps.
Leonard Cohen's "Ten New Songs"...always takes us back to Pingyao.

The Irish guitarist that refused the invitation to join the Rolling Stones
I got turned into Rory Gallagher with the 1972 Live in Europe LP and thought no one else in Australia had ever heard of him, Then he came to Sydney and played at the Hordern Pavilion. When he picked up his ukelele and strummed the first chord of Going to my Home Town everyone entered into rhythmic clap in time with each stroke of the strings. An overwhelming feeling that everyone there knew his music was one of the most poignant moments in the hundreds of blues gigs I have attended. I took my fiance Denise to his next Sydney gig in 1979 or 1980 where he blew us both away. Got most of his albums. Then in 2018 Denise booked our tickets to the Rory Gallagher Tribute Festival in Ballyshannon, Ireland...and that's another story! Keeping the memory alive!
