D MJ Binkley: "I'd love to nominate this photo for photo of the week. I love the highway winding through the mountains. The light snow covered hills and trees make you want to take a road trip, go hiking or snow shoeing. This photo captures a moment and it is lovely."

The Coquihalla highway links the Vancouver area of south-west BC to the Kamloops area in the middle of the province. We travel several times a year from our workplace in Vernon to our permanent home on Pender Island, near Victoria, BC. It is a beautiful highway both summer and winter but snow tires are mandatory in winter and chains must be carried. The highway is often closed for several days at a time during the winter because of snowfall and avalanches.

We hit a very pleasant window on our return trip. When the highway dipped into a valley, the road and surrounding area were almost bare. The summits were another story.

This picture was taken through the car window and turned out rather well. My photographer wife was very happy with it and the nomination!
