Photographer - Oceanic Nomad: "Roaming the oceans of the world since 2005........coming soon to a coastline near you."
This photo was taken on the ocean side of Rangiroa, on an outgoing tide near the Avatoru Pass, and it sounded like this school of jacks can usually be spotted in this location on a regular basis. Our divemaster said that this was the only location that they can be seen on Rangiroa.
I have many pictures of them--it was really mesmerizing how they were slowly swimming so close together, in a circular pattern that would expand to an elongated oval, and the loop was never broken. They were always swimming in a clockwise motion, when viewed from below, even as we got closer to them. Each fish looked identical to all of the others, and it was just really cool to watch them all acting like they shared the same brain, hundreds upon hundreds of them, moving in the same way.
