Hello Dan and welcome to the Forum! I've just edited your previous post to modify the link by using (with no gap after the = sign) to embed the video, rather than the whole web address (which does not embed).

Perhaps this could be the start of a new thread for compositions by Travelblog members!

SCREAMING JAY HAWKINS

"I am painting in oil, a portrait of a man
Who has taken all the heart aches,
And all the pain he can stand.

I am using all the colors of blue,
I have here on my stand.
I am painting in oil, a portrait of a man.

I can tell he is dying. I see death in his eyes.
Oh yes I know, I know when he's crying
'Tis my tears, my tears that he cries.

I am so tired of how he feels inside,
I mix the paint with my hand.
I am painting in oil, a portrait of a man.

As I paint a wrinkled brow and hair that is turning grey,
Oh tell me how, how can I paint a smile
And eyes that keep turning away?

I am using all the colors of blue
I have here on my stand.
I am painting in oil, a portrait and I'm the man.

A portrait and I am the man."

Now there is a name I haven't heard in a while. I remember seeing Screamin' Jay Hawkins as the support act for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds back in 1985 (or maybe 1986). He was a great showman on stage and really won the audience over. Reply to this

The CD this is taken from, En Mana Kuoyo, has just arrived and is on my player now - gorgeous music with many different styles on just 10 tracks. The track I posted earlier is about cattle herding and the coming rains. A wonderful purchase!

Kiss from a rose is beautiful. Now those Floyd gigs were awesome concerts..I groupied across Aus when Floyd toured in the 80s and went to every gig. Well, not groupied, travelled to each concert should I say...

Dave this may ring a bell with you - the first time I heard this live was when I was working in the Vic Hotel in Darwin. Chisel had finally come to town and the pub was thumping but this....silence...it may be a cover but every time i hear any version im straight back in hot steamy darwin in the wild wild 80s.

Cindy, I too saw Chisel during their first incarnation (their last Queensland concert in fact) and that is still one of my favourite shows ever. I did miss the Pink Floyd tour in the 80s, but did however see Roger Waters The Wall in Brisbane earlier this year, and along with U2's 1984 Under Australian Skies performance at Festival Hall in Brisbane, these were two shows that transcended the word "concert" into "experience".
