Hi, I'm really, really interested in doing the Volunteer USA thing through Bunac. Has anyone on here done it and if so, what could you tell me about it?

I'm looking at the 12 weeks option.... Cheers Reply to this

Hello there. I went out on this scheme last september for 10 weeks and had an amazing time! www.mytb.org/Kempo-Abroad
Here's the link to my travel blog which includes some of the stuff i did after the volunteer work as well. The blogs aren't mega detailed so feel free to mail me with any specific questions. When off project you stay in the accommodation owned by American Conservation Experience: www.usaconservation.org. This is a good part of the experience in my opinion (especially for me being 18 and being away from home for an extended amount of time) because you are living with other volunteers who you will bond with so much and these are the people you have trips with on days off. The actual work side will likely be very different to what i experienced as a lot of the projects were coming to a close and new ones starting. What i can say is that you need to be prepared to work hard, mix with the other volunteers and just enjoy the amazing surroundings. Weather wise i think i got it pretty good being in the autumn as i saw the tail end of summer and the start of winter so neither extreme cold or heat. Having said that i saw a temperature range of about 55 degrees and the weather has a fairly big impact on the enjoyment of the project so keep this in mind when/if you go. Whatever projects you end up on, you will have an amazing time, meet great people, see things you never thought you would and have a brilliant time... Man i really should get a job for BUNAC but yeah, it's that good! Reply to this
