random resizing by TravelBlog - not me

site problems with apparent random sizing
13 years ago, May 24th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #111643
this has really started to annoy me. I love to be able to add my pix to my blogs - but the apparent random resizing, with no relation to the image size i am uploading, is getting to me. As full size images from my Canon 550D run to 10mp if on H setting. So I resize them all at same rate of 30% with Irfanview (or 40% if i am using M setting). Makes it quicker to upload and size ends up being 250-500kb for 30%-H ones. But some, with no apparent logic, end up almost stamp size compared to others. I wanted people to see the grandeur of the Grand Canyon on my latest blog and when you click on on some single images they actually shrink! I can't be bothered going thru the whole rigmarole of resizing them again and replacing and reloading etc. Is there any rhyme or reason to this - it is drivng me nuts!! I thought i was doing TravelBlog's bandwidth a favour by resizing- but it aint doing me any! Reply to this

I personally have not had this issue through about 200 blog entries. Are you changing the dimensions of your pictures when you resize them? For instance, are you making the long side longer through a crop? I belive the picture logic expects pictures to be of the same dimension (roughly 4x5 or 5x4) and when one side is longer (e.g. 6X4) it can cause some issues.

I'll forward your post to the other moderators and see if anyone knows the cause of your issue.

Maybe the camera or one of the programs is embedding a thumbnail, and TB is picking that up instead? Try using DPP to convert and save (rather than plain resize). That might strip the file of extra stuff. Reply to this

The combination of Irfanview and TravelBlog definitely produces some quirky behaviour, e.g. any crops that I've done have shown on TravelBlog as the original pre-crop photo, and the crop is only seen if the photo is clicked on. Try using, say, Microsoft Paint for the resizing and see if you still have the problem you mention.

Also, do you have an example of this in any of your blogs? I went through all of them and didn't see any issues. Reply to this

folks - in relation to cropping - NO (simple % resizing using Irfanview which is otherwise the best free progy for this)- in relation to thumbnails - NO. Sorry I postd in te tehnical support forum as well. The answer it seems is not to "review" immediately after you have uploaded (I am sure everyone does this just after they have done it). it now seems that when you come back later (and I have today checked some of the Grand Canyon ones and earlier entries I was hyperventilating about) they all now seem the same size (can't tell the native Photoblog pixel dimensions) - so it is a case of take a deep breath and check later! Thanks for your contributions. Just a case of patience rather than instant demand it seems. Reply to this
