Travel Finances

So why is it that every time I go on vacation (it doesn't matter where), I always lose track of my finances? Or, for example, the concept of money doesn't mean as much as it did when I was saving for my adventure.

This last weekend, I went on a short trip to Arizona (Hoover and The Grand Canyon), then to New Mexico, and back by way of Las Vegas. WTF??? It took me 2 months to save a reasonable amount of money for this "Shindig", then I ended up spending it in less than 5 days. I had absolutely no regard for my money or how much things cost. The only thing I worried about, was how happy the purchase or expense was going to make me. Like a $6 HotDog (w/out chips, fries, or drink), or a $5 keychain. WHO NEEDS A KEYCHAIN!!!! Arrrggghhhhh...

Sorry guys. How do you spend your money on trips??? Reply to this

OMG! The same thing happened to me while on Montreal. I've been in Montreal almost a week, and I already spent my money. I honestly wouldn't know what to advise you.. Reply to this

Hi Ryan,
Dont know if you did this, but as for me i'm going to be living/traveling throughout campeche/yucatan/quitana roo for an unknown amount of time starting next year so im saving every dollar i can, i've already done enough research on housing expenses for the first 3-4 months so i've just been making a spreadsheet guesstimating expenditures ( whether i stick to it is still unknown) but it kinda puts it on paper so you get a better idea...hope this helped in some way..

Man I do the same thing. I guess, I try not to think about it, and realize that I saved that money for a reason, and I'm going to have a good time. But, it really sucks to get home and be like.... I'm broke.

So, as Greg above suggested, maybe setting out spending limits before you go? Such as "I'm only going to spend xx dollars on souvenirs, and xx dollars on food each day" And try to stick to it as much as possible. It's really hard to do though, I feel you. Reply to this
