Edit Blog Post

Well, im currently sat on the bathroom floor writing this blog as it´s the only light in the room and Ant is asleep in bed - finally.

Today started off at 6am as we got up for our flgiht to Cuzco. It turned out flights were leaving the airport today so we arrive safe and sound here in Cuzco. However, when we arrived we were messed around even further by the GAP leaders as they were sayin that perhaps by the end of the week we might be able to do Machu Pichu even though we had seen on the news that the place was flooded, people had died and the country was in a state of natural disaster and emergency.

There were a lot of talks with the leaders as they did not want to give us our moeny back nor officially cancel the trip. Anyway, we went to look around Cuzco, but i was really struggling to breathe so we called it a day after an hour or so and went to book a bus to Puno. We thought this was the best option, gettin out of the city and continuing with our plans. The two girls that we met on the trip Anna and Katie decided that they wanted to come with us so we all set off for the bus station to haggle a price- which we did and are very pleased with ourselves.

Back at the hostel the other 3 people on our trip, Mandy and Gemma and Sam also wanted to come along so they went and bought their tickets and asked us to book them accommodation for all 7 of us-which we did, and only for 6$ per person. By this time it was 8pm and we were all due to go for a meal out as we all thought we were going to be parting our ways originally. But as we left Ant got sick - altitutde sickness, so we didn´t go. I eneded up having to run to find a pharmacy to get some medicine as he was really quie bad. Anyway he´s taken his tablets and is now sleeping peacfully. I guess this is the first day i´ve felt homesick beacause i felt like i didn´t know how to make Ant better and wanted help but everyone had gone out to dinner. However, he seems ok now and i´m sure this medicine will help with the rest of the journey. Sorry this blog is quite depressing but to be honest the last two days have felt like this. We haven´t got to do the challenge that we really wanted to do and things feel like they´re gettin worse and we´re in the middle of a natural disaster. Anyway, tomorrow we go to Lake Titicaca in Puno which should be beautiful and hopefully things will start improving. Ona positive note Cuzco is beautiful and just how you imagine it to be with inka ruins, cobbled streets and indigenous women wearing full on indigenous clothes pulling lamas and cradling babies on their backs in slings. Spot on for authenticity-needs to sort out it´s climate control though. ciao. x

My little girl on the bathroom floor :(
Oh Wowa my love, I read your entry for the 26th, and it brought a tear to my eye. I could just see you sitting there, and almost hear you saying those words. I'm so glad you wrote it all down ... it makes your experiences very honestly real for the rest of us, but also it will have been quite cathartic, and in expressing it, it will have helped you to deal with it. Tonight I saw television pictures of the scenes at Machu Picchu, and my jaw literally dropped open. I could hardly believe the devastation and the raging rivers. We're so very, very glad you got away. There are still people stuck there now, and repeated attempts to rescue them aren't working. (I do realise your blog isn't up to this point yet). Well done for looking after Ant when he needed you, and Ant, we hope you're over the worst of it now. Neither of you needs to beat yourselves up about not getting to do "the challenge (you) wanted to do" ... what you've been dealing with seems to me to be a lot more demanding than any old trek you'd previously had in mind. You'll both have experienced and dealt with a lot. We're proud of you both for the way you've handled it. I'm so glad you did get to take away some nicer memories of Cuzco, and that things were sounding better when I heard from you earlier. GAP Adventures seem to have written their own advert, and dealing with them from here, we've been no more impressed than you have. Love you loads, both of you. Mum xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
