PROXIMA ESTACION: CENTRO AMERICA-PANAMA 1st stop: La frontera - la gran sabana After crossing over the brazilian-Venezuelan border, we arrived at Santa Helena. As we told you in our last post Aimar headed towrds the Angel´s falls with some friends. Just for Aimar's followers: He is still unreachable but as soon as he's finished his adventure he'll write it down in his own blog. Both of us just continued with our trip and we spent a couple of days in La Gran Sabana where we were joined by another german vagamundo called Simon.
2nd stop: Ciudad Bolivar And we arrived in Ciudad Bolivar, the south americas liberator's hometown. And we arrived in a city totally dead beacuse of holly weeks celebrations. We started asking and observing the real impact that Hugo Chavez socialist policies are having in Venezuela (it is unavoidable to visit a country and not talk about politics and social matters, unless you don't want to get a deeper understanding of the country). We found a country a bit difficult to understand. Venezuelans can sometimes be a bit mute about their own political ideas. Our perception it's that there is plenty of revolutionary
simbology but its impact in venezuelan society is very superficial since peaople are more interested inpossesions than in ideas.
3rd stop: Merida, transbordo en Caracas-Valencia To think about crossing a country as big as Venezuela in hollyweek is quite an adventure. The consequence was that to reach a beautifull colonial city as Merida we were forced to take several buses (full of fleas, which fully reminded us of Bolivia and Peru) and we were forced to "understand" the local idiosincracy of just right now...ha, ha. Once in Merida our main aim was: To celebrate Rocio's birthday. So in this way we had a bit of a snob moment and Rocio was fully covered in chocolate and undergoing an exfoliant massage for more that 1 and a half hours. By the way, all this after suffering for more than 6 hours in a bike going up andes mountains.
4th stop: La frontera-Colombia-Cartagena But not all is chocolate and well being. Soon enough the long trips in buses, with our friends the fleas and the just right now of the southamerincans, started again. And we arrived in Cartagena de Indias, one of the most beautifull cities in South
America and the final stop of our 6 months travelling around SA.
NEXT STOP: CENTRAL AMERICA-PANAMA
