We got up (a bit later than we wanted to) to head down to the port. We had taken our big bags to the hostel we were staying at when we got back the night before so we only had our small bags. They were still really full as we had to have stuff for the three days. We had breakfast and walked to the port, wishing we had listened a bit more when the other girls from the hostel had told us the way! We found it though and it wasn´t too hard! When we went to buy tickets we were told we would have to buy first class as there was no space left in tourist class. Was only about 40 pesos more which is less than 8quid so we decided it was worth it. We would have lost more than that in the accomodation we had booked and then finding somewhere in Buenos Aires to stay that night. We were glad we hadn´t got up early to come down as the next ferry was at 11.15. They have a weird system though as you go to one desk to tell them what you want and they take your
passport number. You then have to go to a different desk and give them your passport to pay for what you had ordered (opposite sides of the room from each other!). You then had to go to check in before security and immigration. Got a stamp for leaving Argentina and one for entering Uruguay, done by two guys sitting next to each other. Again they were put on top of other stamps in my passport which is really annoying!!! Means a few pages in my passport look quite good but you cant read what they say! We got on the ferry and were allowed to go to the special first class lounge upstairs. We got to sit in comfy chairs which are kinda like the bouncy chairs you can get from Ikea. They also came round to the seats to ask if we wanted drinks, weren´t free though so we didn´t bother! The ferry ride was really smooth and was just less than an hour long. We got off and just kinda wandered in the direction we thought might be out towards the town as there were no signs anywhere! It was out and there was a guy there who
Marching band!
they went past while we were having a drink and we felt we had to take a picture! was hiring out mopeds and golf buggys! We would have loved to get a moped but we didn´t have our proper driving licences with us and we assumed they wouldn´t accept a photocopy which is all we had. We wandered round then decided to consult the map in the guidebook to try and find the place where we were staying. Thought we were heading in the right direction, but then seemed wrong so we had to ask a guy. We had gone quite wrong but we blame the fact the map missed out half the roads!! Anyway we found our way there eventually! The place we were staying seemed very out the way in a residential area, further away than we had thought it would be! It was a womans house with a block of rooms at the back. She greeted us and started speaking, she then checked if we could speak spanish, when we said we couldn´t she rushed off into the house and came out with a boy who could. She showed us the room she had set up for us and then showed us an alternative one we could have if we wanted as in the room
she had set up there was a double bed. We chose the double bed over the dorm kinda room as it had a tv in and seemed nicer! We left our stuff there and headed into the centre to see what there was. The centre is really small, only a few roads with shops on. Spend some time looking through the shop windows as most of them were shut (was sat afternoon). Some of the shops did open again later, they had closed for siesta. Further away from the main square there were little shops selling handcrafts which were nice to look round. We stopped for a beer in a little cafe and listened to a marching band go past!
We then went and sat on some grass down by the coast looking out to the sea for a while, was really peaceful! We thought about going up the little lighthouse but decided against it as there was quite a few people waiting and it really wasn´t that big so we didn´t think the view would be that different to the ground!
We ate our meal in a little place on the highstreet. We both had steak sandwiches, and they
came with ham and cheese as well!!!!!
After eating we headed back to the hostel, via the supermarket where we bought a bottle of wine and some snacks. At the hostel we sat in the bed and finished off the wine watching the tv, luckly there was an english channel or i dont know what we could have done!
