Cusco & Macchu Picchu - 5th to 9th of February

After a 36h bus ride from Sucre, Bolivia we arrived in Cusco at 5am. Unfortunately the room was not ready until 2pm so we chilled a bit in the TV room. Backpackers are able to sleep everywhere 😉
Booked a trip to Macchu Picchu and explored the beautiful city of Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca empire. We escaped Bolivia to get some sun and fortunately the weather was better. Yes 😊

Got picked up at 8am to start our trip to the probably most famous ruins in SA. A nice but again adventures drive, as the road was not very wide and the cliff was pretty deep. Made it alive to Hydroelectrica (water power plant). From there it was a 2h hike to Aqua Caliente, also known as Macchu Picchu town. The trail was along the railway tracks in a humid forest.
Had to get up at 3:30! am to start walking in the dark to be at the entrance at 5am. Fortunately there where selling coffee to go on the way. After showing our tickets we had to hike a very steep stairway for about an hour. Although the sun wasn't out yet, we sweat a lot but was definitely worth it. We were rewarded with the amazing view of the ruins of Macchu Picchu with clouds on the mountains and almost no people. Even though the ruins where incredible, the location is what makes it unique.
Started our way down at 11am, again through the forest. Arrived in Cusco at 10:30pm after our driver thought it's a good idea to argue with the police. Super hungry, tired and sweaty from the long day we sat in the hostel, eating dinner and listening to the karaoke performances of the other backpackers.

Left for Lima the next day in a bus we almost didn't want to leave. With own tv, good service and great food we had the most relaxing trip of this journey.
Had some more relax time in Lima, watching surfer on the beach, had some drinks in a fancy place and walking through the neighborhood of Miraflores. Found a supermarkets who sells German Leberwurst and so had an amazing breakfast the next day 😊

On the way to Guayaquil, Ecuador
