Hey everyone!
So, after Lima, we left at 4 am to go to Pisco by bus ( bout a 5 hour bus ride) to the bellestas islands, where we saw tons of birds (apparently there are about 60 types) and saw a couple of sea lions really up close. After that, we had lunch and then took another bus to Ica, where there are these huge sand dunes where we got to go sandboarding and ride these dune buggies. It was freakin amazing. The driver was awesome and dune buggies went freakishly fast- the whole time we were like ship ship ship (replace p with t) . After that we went sandboarding down these massive sand dunes. When we first saw the trainer guy go down we just looked at each other and burst out laughing hysterically...we were like OMG you´ve got to be kidding..but in the end we all went down soo hurray for us!! Then we took another bus (we left ica at like 6 pm) to nazca and spent the night there. The next morning we got to fly over the nazca lines (if you dont know what they are google it lol). Basically they are these huge
drawings over the dessert that can only be seen from the sky and are considered to be a world mystery. We got to fly over them in this tiny plane (felt like i was gonna throw up) cause it was definetely not a smooth flight. The pilot was like banking in circles around the lines...left side..right side...haha i was pretty happy to be back on the ground but it was definetely amazing. After that, we went for dinner, and then left at around midnight to catch this overnight bus (10 hours) to go from nazca to arequipa. Arequipa is called the white city and is absolutely beautiful. When we got there in the morning, we went strait to the hotel for a nap and then spent the rest of the day relaxing and wandering around the city. The next day, we got up at around 8 for some breakfast and then went horseback riding in the country side. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen (the pictures dont do it justice). After that we got dinner and relaxed in the hotel for a while. Nigel and Klever and I decided we should spend our last
night in Arequipa drinking so we went to the local bar, (an Irish one cause Nigel apparently wanted to go) watched the game and had a few beers. I slept really good that night. Too bad we had to get up at 5 to go around the Colca canyon valley. That day was a bit vague for me...dont remember much of what happened..We half way to the valley we stopped at this place to drink some Coca tea, which is good for altitude sickness, supressing hunger and the need for sleep. It´s considered a sacred plant in Peru and almost everyone drinks it on a daily basis. The tea I got at that place was extremely strong (usually you get it in a little tea bag)..there were like 15 leaves in my cup and some various other vegetation (that we later found in the mountains). Ship that tea was so strong I could barely even drink it. I´m not entirely sure what happened after that, but I know we had dinner somewhere and then drove to Chivay. There are some really nice hotsprings in Chivay, so we spent a bit of time there, and then went to bed.
Unfortunately, Chivay
was celebrating some kind of aniversary and they partied ( really hard). They played the same song all night, (they used like windpipe things and guitars and sang extremely loud..) and it would have been relatively pleasant except that they partied from 5 pm to I don´t know when, because we had to get up the next day (today) at 5 am (after a night of no sleep) and when we left at around 6 they were still going at it.
Right, this morning was interesting because I picked some tea, called te natural selecto, which i thought sounded pretty normal. When I picked up the tea bag, Nigel was like..hmm..that picture on the tea bag looks like hash..and I´m like ´does it really?´hm...sniffed it..smelled like pot...tasted it...yup..definetely pot. ...haha that was..disgusting.
Anyways, after breakfast we went to the Colca canyon (which is the one of the deepest canyons in the world.. deeper that the grand canyon) and we saw a bunch of condors, which are one of the largest birds in the world and have a wing span of about 3 m. The condors dont flap their wings, they just glide in the canyon and are absolutely beautiful
to watch. I took a couple pictures but the zoom on my camera sucks so they turned out pretty bad..
After the canyon, we drove a couple ours to Puno (halfway there we got a flat tire, discovered that the spare was not the right size...drove back to Chivay..where we tried to get help from the locals..but they were still sleeping from a night of partying..so they were pretty useles..and then had to get another bus sent for us). But anyways, we eventually got to Puno, which is right on the shore of lake Titicaca, the highest navigatible lake in the world. We (the four of us) finally joined up with the rest of our group and had a welcome dinner. (they only signed up for half the tour). Tomorrow, we are going to lake Titicaca to visit the floating islands and live in a homestay for one night with the locals.
Alright I think thats everything, hope all´s well for everyone!!!
