Today breakfast 730 leaving at 8. We still had our private bus so that was really good. The drive to Puno was 6-7 hours and we stopped every 2 - 2 1/2 hours for toilet and snack breaks.
We did see some flamingoes on a lake however were on a bridge so unable to stop for photos. Andreas said there is usually more of them around.
Most of Puno housing was pretty ugly but the plaza and shopping street seemed quite nice and it was big and felt safe. We dropped our bags at the hotel and headed for lunch. The room keys here were really cute. Little Spanish ladies stuffed dolls in dresses and you have to lift the dress to find your room number written underneath.
My room was up 5 flights of stairs. I think at about level 3 I got tired and I was out of breath and pretty much had to lay on bed 5 minutes before I could move again by the time I got to my room.
We had wifi again at this hotel (yay).
For lunch we went
to a really nice restaurant in the plaza. I had a lamb dish highly recommended by Andreas. I didn't think I was hungry but he said he wasn't going to make plans for dinner so I figured I'd have a big lunch. It was really nice. It was a slow cooked lamb and came with a few types of potatoes and corn.
After lunch Andrea took us to the markets and we bought 20 soles each of mixed fruit or mixed vegetables to take to our home stays tomorrow. Andreas said only give it to them after they feed us or they will think it's all for us and cook up everything to give to us instead of keeping it as a gift to feed themselves.
He explained tomorrows Lake Titicaca excursion and what to expect and gave us a free night to get dinner ourselves. A group of us met at 615 and walked to a bar for dinner and to watch the Peru v Haiti soccer game. As it was Election Day you could not drink/serve alcohol however the bar tender guy was so cute. He came up with his phone and
had translated in Spanish to English about the election. He wrote he could not serve alcohol however he can disguise it. I got a sangria in a coffee cup and the others got pisco sours disgusted as 'milkshakes'. My first drink at altitude so hopefully I won't have regrets. Still feeling good so far. I think today a few times had a tiny head ache or head spin by again not enough that I feel I need to take the diamox. It was more of a blink and you miss it kind of moment.
Peru won the match 1-0 and we went back to hotel and I packed for Lake Titicaca. It's not easy when I've over packed to try get everything into one bag.
On a good note we didn't even need to carry our bags downstairs. Just had to make sure everything was put away into bag and locked and we just left it in room. The staff would later collect if for storage and when we arrive back tomorrow they will have moved our stuff into our new rooms.
