So today (31/12/08) we finally get a lie in an still we wake up dead early as well we are just so used to it now.........hee hee!!! Well its News Years Eve but a tad too early for a beer so we have a briefing at about 1ish so we get all our laundry sorted as after the Inca Trail I am not too sure that anything is clean hee hee and we are off to Puno on New years Day so time to get it all sorted!!! went for a wander into town did a few odds and sods and made sure you all got an email (soz if you were missed but have a belated Happy New Year!!) saving on the text messages, which I have to say I am doing surprisingly well at avoiding replying to all texts - but those that promised footie updates (no names Natasha!!!) please I get to see them on line whist waiting hee hee!!! So yes I know that Spurs are missing me as we aer not doing all taht well - but back tot he trip ;-)
So we have our meeting and yes this will def make you all
laugh we have to catch a bus for about 7hrs at 7am on new years day.........OK stop it that was enought laughing hmmmm!!! So we all decide to go to a club called Roots to bring in the New Year and at only $45 (US) for all I can drink I say bring it on (no dad I stopped at my limit I promise!!) Hee hee!!! So Dave and I decide that at 2pm on NYE it really is time to have a beer so off we go to Paddys (I think that is now our local in Cusco) and bump into one ot the Americans that we met on the Inca Trail, Swap who lets us know that they are probably hanging out there later as well, so I am sure we will bump inot them again!!! So back to the Hostal as we really need to pack, I cannot see that happening in the morning at all!!! Cant be bothered to wait fo rthe full group there is only soo much you can do in a hostal without getting bored so off we hop for a quick drink in Paddys before hitting Roots........Its a bit like an Inca
Trail reunion with the Americans, a few Aussies and others, it had a real good vibe in there so was a good way to re-start the night!!! ;-) So off we head to Roots and meet up with the others - there are a few giggles made at Roycey as he has come dressed as something a bit undescribale but you will see that in the pics (yellow is lucky for NYE)!!! So come midnight everyone heads to the main suare for fireworks and basic celebrations and yes it is still raining hee hee oh well its rainy season after all!!! It was pretty cool out there sooo busy and just full of mad people love it!!! So back to Roots and headed home at some time prob around 2ish (no dad I was just not looking at the tim ;-))
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
OK well no it was def not the best plan to get up at stupid O´clock but we did all make it to the bus, which I personally think was pretty impressive. Now we all have allocated seats but James and Charlie seemed not to have seats as the allocation was not really followed
and they had double booked seats - so finally we find 2 girls that are on the wrong bus........oh joys none of us really needed but hey off they get and off we go for about 7/8hrs to get to Puno.........was a loverly long and windy road not a great choice at all - hmmmmmmm
So we finally get to the Hostal at bout 2ish and all I really want is food and sleep..........sort of forgot that is was New Years Day and finally found a place that was open - not impressed had to wait abuopt an hour for food hmmmm and lack of energy was not really helping too much!!!! So after lunch went to tthe market to get some food for our host families in Lake Titicaca and then as New Years Day should be we went back to watch telly in bed!!! ;-)
Oh my goodness we have a day that does not include travelling by bus!!! Please no-one faint take a deep breath!!! ;-) We all hopped on 2-seater trikes that took us to the port - thankfully it was all downhill!!! hee hee!!! was fun though ;-) Si then off on a
boat to Taquile Island that was about 3hrs away and off we went for an ikle tour around to hear about the history and how they all live and survive on the Island it is pretty cool everyone is there for eachother and will help out when times are hard. Then backl on the boat for about an hr to get to Amantanti where are staying for the night and we meet our host families. Dave and I are staying with 2 ikel boys 10+12 and what we think is their grandmother. There were a few games of footie the locals v us and funnily enough we won both - apparently it was their 2nd team we were playing, like I have never heard that before!!! Hee hee!!! So off we go tot have dinner with our host family and it was surprising tasty (we were warned that it maynot taste all that good) It was pretty hard to commounicate as the g´mother did not really speak much Spainsh and we only had a real small amount but the boys were pretty good and they looked at all my pics and stuff.....OK here for the funny part we all had
to get dressed in the local outfits for a party in the evening which was pretty funny again look at the pics!! We did however all get to dance and the locals did put on a good show with all the local dances. Was a very different nights sleep on a bed of concrete and what looked like bamboo as the matress but a part from the rain it was pretty good sleep.
So off on the boat the next day to the Uros Islands (Floating Islands) in Lake Titicaca, these were real impressive and basically we learnt that every 3mths they have to re-build their islands and houses as they Island basically reaches teh bottom on the lake -man that is effort but it was pretty cool and then we went on a man made boat around the island - was real fun. Then off back to Puno where we were all a tad lazy went out for dinner and an early night as we have to leave at about 7am tmw - off to Bolivia - Country number 2!!!! ;-)
