We arrived in Mancora on morning of the 6th (Tues) and now that we're at the beach, I feel like we're on a vacation from our vacation. The Loki hostel is like a resort right next to the beach with a pool, bar, ping pong table, and loads of daily activities for less than $9 a night! I've definitely decided that I want to open a hostel somewhere abroad when I retire...I've been keeping tabs on what is good and what is bad. Since traveling is one of my biggest passions, it's pretty much perfect for me hehe
Mancora is gorgeous and the people are super friendly, however it is more touristy that the cities we've been to with more gringos, especially at the Loki...
The highlights:
We watched the 2 semifinal soccer matches with everyone at the hostel..great vibe and so fun to be around crazy europeans...
I finally played soccer on the beach with peruvians and israeli's... the process is always the same. first they doubt me since I'm a white girl. then after a few minutes of playing with me I win over their confidence and respect so they pas me the ball like
I'm one of them. Mm it felt so good to be in my element again.
I've met so many israeli's and they're all so different but the same....now I can pick them out anywhere..
Started the party our last night....I suggested Sim should give a salsa lesson for a free nights stay or a free meal and she built up the courage to make it happen. There was a great turnout and it got people dancing and intermingling because a lot of groups were sticking to themselves. I was so proud of her. It was great to see her in her element.
After the lesson everyone sat back down but I wanted to keep dancing so me and David, an Israeli I met on the beach a few days earlier, started dancing. At this point we were joined by two awesome European girls and then we divided and conquered to snag up more people and drag them onto the dance floor. Then I brought out my ipod to play DJ because the Loki's music was going downhill--they were playing Grease Lightening!
Then all these israeli's kept asking to play ping pong with me, so I was
running around dancing, being the DJ, and blowing their minds in ping pong. Sim and I were basically hosting this party...it was crazy fun!
By 2am the bar closed down but everyone was still up and wanted to dance so we brought the party to the club on the beach that was still playing music. At this point we just sat around the bonfire and chatted with everyone. I had an incredible conversation with Elad, another Israeli I met playing soccer, about the war in Israel. I feel so ignorant, but their stories have inspired me to learn more about the situation. It's so complicated and it boggles my mind that it's all because a book says the Palestinians should own Israel...insanity.
Our last day, I joined a team of European guys to participate in the Loki Olympics (Team Paa). We ended up placing 1st in the tug-of-war and the canon ball contest, but losing pool volleyball and cuba libre musical chairs. The final results weren´t until 9pm, but Sim and I left at 7pm for our night bus to Lima so I didn´t find out til the next day that we lost the tie-breaker dart throw against
the israeli team...if only I was there :P
It was definitely a much needed 4 days on the beach and in the sun before more cities and cold Andean weather....
