our police escorts
outside the smallest church in the world Most people say that Lima is a dangerous place and to avoid it, today we found out that it is dangerous place but I still wouldnt say avoid it as there are some fascinating places to see.
I managed to hook up with a group of 6 solo travellers and we went to find the smallest church in the world, we wandered off the tourist track slightly and one of our group had her camera stolen out of her hand by 2 guys. We spent a while in the police station and they were very slow but escorted us to the church we wanted to see but it was closed!!
Despite that the last 2 days we have seen a lot, in Lima central we saw some catacombs where bones and skulls were arranged in pretty patterns, a few cathedrals and the changing of the guards, not to mention a Miss Teen Peru parade!
I am staying in Miraflores, a safer area of Lima and it is on the coast which is cool as we watched the sunset. We have been exploring the city taking the local buses which are 1 Sol (less than 20p) and eating a
Miss teen Peru
just as well we didn´t miss that 3 course meal for 5 Soles (less than a pound).
I´ve got here on a weekend and Miraflores seems to have a bit of party scene, I even managed to have a large 1 litre beer with a german girl to celebrate the Oktoberfest!
Tomorrow i meet my tour and soon I will be off to Cusco for my trek!
